imo the only awards this movie deserves are

1) Ledger for playing a bad a** joker

2) Nolan for bringing his vision of joker to the big screen

Other than that this movie doesn't deserve S***

and was just ridiculously "OVERRATED"

7...tech noms. Important to the film? Oh yes, do those people deserve praise? Hell yes...but in the grand scheme of things, if it wasnt for Nolan they wouldnt even be there. So....7 TECH noms, mean nothing. Its not history, its not new, its the same ol, same ol. ONE more then ^^^^ Tracy doesnt make movie history.

And you still have a bat avatar, and you're still calling people fanboys. I dont care if you are a film buff. Just seems silly to me.

Don't get me wrong, I also am a little bit disapointed since the Directors Guild even nominated Nolan. (+ the Writers Gild and the Producers Guild also nominated TDK)
So the 3 big guilds of the hollywood filmindustry nominated TDK and they are somewhat a predictor for what the Academy will do, but the Academy choose to ignore that! In that context I too was dissapointed yes, especially for the Christopher Nolan that he did not get nominated and in a lesser extend for the screenplay.

But that does not diminish the hard facts: nod for Ledger, the big succes, the great reviews + the 8 nods in total still.

lol you are the opposite of the batman fanboys that is clear :)

HOWEVER, you cannot discuss about 6 of the 7 technical nominations it got.
The editing was sometimes...strange, but all the other nominations were really Academy stuff.

Yeah it is actually. You may not agree...but a film that got this much praise...

I'm not a big fan of LOTR, but I dont its overrated at all. I dont like The Godfather all that much either, but I get WHY its so good.

I don't see where people get the "overrated" thing from... I guess we all have our own opinions and all.

But to me, this really was the best superhero movie ever made. It beat out the original Superman in my mind. It probably helps that I have been a Batman fan since I was a very young child... it might help that my Mother died when I was a kid and the story of Batman was therapy to my damaged psyche...

The stars seemed to align for me with this movie, Batman was played perfectly, they actually got the Joker and Two Face right.. well, exactly the way I like them to be. Gordon was exactly as I would want him, as excellent as when he was written by Frank Miller in Year One. The story was captivating, shocking, and intense. The music was rousing, sad and tense at times. I couldn't have asked for a better vision of Batman or his universe.

And I was a HUGE fan of the Burton Batman, I never thought it would be improved upon. Begins broke it's hold on me, and TDK forever wrested it's dominant grip on my mind.

I don't know if Watchmen might be better, when I finally see it... But with Batman being so personal to me, I doubt it will take the top seat away from TDK. At least to me.

If anything The Wrestler got snubbed WAY harder than TDK. I thought that was in for sure. Amazing, amazing movie.

Out of curiousity, in your opinion, what films did deserve to be nominated for best picture?

I can agree with all nominated but not 'the reader'.

Well, of all the movies nominated 5 years from now everyone will forget about them but people will probably still be talking about TDK so you can be happy about that. :)

but The Reader doesn't deserve a mention in anyones top 10 let alone a top 5.

As is often the case a film I'd never even heard of edges its way in. Even so, if not that film then The wrestler probably would have made it in before TDK.

Ledger got the nod for a combination of the hype his death generated about the role and because his performance fell into a certain 'unusual' (or should that be 'Stranger') category that they do occasionally look at. But thats where they were going to leave it - a snobbery came into play that A) a comic book movie and B) a huge commercially successful film should not be considered for a major category award.

I agree that technical awards, while perhaps deserved, are simply not remembered by ANYONE other than those it directly concerns - the guys who win them, their competition, the guys who hire all these people.

So I'm not happy with TDKs 8 nominations. Its less impressive than it ought to have been. No other comic book film will ever win anything big now.

That's a pretty touching piece mate. Couldn't agree with you more about your feelings towards TDK. Respect. I'm going to the IMAX near me next wknd to watch the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight double bill. Rock. :maul

Johan Nolans take on TDK getting snubbed..

'It's truly humbling that you guys would take the time and effort to try to get the film recognized. I, like you, was disappointed that Chris didn't get some recognition this morning, but for Heath and so many of the people who worked so hard on this thing to get nominated is thrilling.

Any nominations for a comic book movie is a thing of beauty no matter how you slice it, and that takes the sting out a bit. Besides, I've been to the big show before, and, like any of these things, it's a little disappointing. Did you know it's not even an open bar once the show starts? At least this time I would have remembered to bring a little cash so I could buy myself a drink after losing.

The best part of this experience is seeing other people getting passionate about the film the way that we did. It has been a truly incredible experience. So thank you again.

best,

jonah nolan'

Thanks man... Batman saved me from going over the deep end when Mom died, it was his perseverance that kept me pushing forward. I will forever feel indebted to the story of the Batman for my survival. I am who I am because of the Bat.

The Academy is so fond of Holocaust flicks like The Reader, I guess the only way for a comic book film to get a Best Pic nom is have it set during the Holocaust like that proposed Wonder Woman movie script which is set in World War 2. Nah, just kidding. (I heard about that script last 2005 during the Batman Begins days.)

But, yes, if TDK didn't make it, it's hard to imagine if any other superhero flick can. TDK just showed how prejudiced the Academy can be towards this genre we all love. I guess the only way a comic book film can receive an Oscar honor if it's something superhero-less like "Road to Perdition" or Alan Moore's "In Hell."

This is so inspiring. It's nice to hear that my favorite character has helped people in different ways, not just for entertainment, but also for coping. The same way this character helped me too. It's great to hear you're doing well now.

Oh yeah, I forgot that there are comic books that have nothing to do with superheroes! So yes what I meant to say was if TDK can't bag the big awards for the Superhero genre nothing else ever will...unless Nolan pulls off something unlikely with his Batman 3 and the academy decide, ala Return of the King, to reward his efforts third time out. I doubt that though.
