I'm debating on getting a space trooper or a jump trooper. Any thoughts? I would have probably gone for ANH stormtrooper if they were still around for a decent price.

Is the ROTJ not an option?

I would choose Spacetrooper over Jumptrooper unless you're a big Battlefront fan. It's closer to the ANH figure too.

I love my Spacetrooper. Was surprised how long he hung around for. Considering he was an Exclusive figure and never been made before. And I got him when he was discounted form SS with a $25 off coupon and free shipping. So I paid $195 total (no tax back then too..:() He was my first HT Stormtrooper as I missed the original ANH version. I even bought a parted out chest piece in hopes to turn him into a regular trooper, if need be, but the hose wasn't removable from his helmet and I could never find a parted out helmet for a cheap enough price I was willing to pay.

The Jumptrooper being from the videogame and not from an actual movie makes him seem a bit out of place. I thought about picking one up way back when at a time that Popcultcha had him pretty cheap way below retail even when buying from Australia. But I ultimately still passed.

And another reason to cringe at the line "They can fly now??" From TROS... :slap

I just pretend the new trilogy doesn't exist , I sleep much better at night :lol
Thats the one thing I like about the jumper, his jetpack is magnetic unlike the spacetrooper. I just wish they designed him the same way so I could detach the hose and airpack. They could have also made the hose connection to his mask magnetic.

But the spacetrooper looks cool as hell and he's an original model. Ahh hell. Can't make up my mind.

I pondered about the ROTJ figure for a long time, looked at so many videos and comparisons between the ANH and ROTJ and I just can't do it. The helmet shape, while odd looking, doesn't bother me as much as the shoes. The damn shoes have an ugly wear pattern on them that put me off. If the wear on his shoes was done better like the sandtrooper or the jumptrooper (but obviously not as harsh), I'd have picked him up.

I have two of the space troopers and hands down as a pair they look the best on a shelf. Their weapon is unique and fantastic and the backpack has great detailing.

They fly now obviously applies to the FO. It is completely contrived to even suggest it applies to the first jet pack in the galaxy ffs. TRoS has plenty of problems but that line isn?t indicative of some continuity break or failure in lore. Some people point to some comic that the FO already had jet packs but that is the first film appearance which we know film canon is the highest tier.

Seriously? Even Boyega made fun of the dumb line he had to say. The FO rose from the empire. They still had nearly the same tie fighter, the original AT-AT alongside their new bigger and better version, and I'm sure other Imperial stuff still in use. Plus, instead of another measly Death Star 3 space station, they turned a whole planet into the new Death Star. Yet, it was beyond their means to have troops with Jet Packs till TROS? Are you seriously defending that? Whether you've seem them on screen in the previous 2 movies or not, you can't honestly believe a former Stormtrooper would be surprised they now have jetpacks. Something the original Clone Troopers had. FFS... :slap. And on top of that, they need to be launched into the air on a vehicle with treads.

Don't defend bad writing based on how it should be interpreted.

And I still haven't even seen TROS. And don't plan to for quite some time

It’s not about defending some throwaway line played for laughs from a flawed and rushed film. It’s about choosing to use criticism reasonably. Fixating on these perceived issues detracts from appropriate critique. It’s one thing to say it’s dumb within context of the universe, it’s another to chastise the writers and assume they didn’t even know jet troopers or jet packs existed in the universe. It’s all about context and learning restraint about being critical.

Keep in mind the line is “They fly now” not “they can fly now”. It’s obviously meant to relate the frustration of the characters with the audience. In fact the clip was made into a meme and received a lot of feedback before the film came out. Admitting to understand the context when relying on secondary source interpretation doesn’t help criticism, instead you’re perpetuating the interpretation of others rather than your own opinion formed by first hand source (the film) which is exactly the contention some have expressed in attacking the TLJ. In effect a lot of opinions are formulated in YouTube videos and the interpretation (and extrapolation) are repeated to perpetuate a collective stigma.

I love this figure, I was at Celebration in 2015 and this was an exclusive figure at that time so it a special meaning for me as well.

Are Spacetroopers actually in ANH?

Some interesting images

I have 2 Space Troopers and 2 Sand Troopers, and they are hands down my favorite Hot Toys trooper variations released to date. Even though neither version got a vintage figure at the time of the movies, both of these just ooze OT nostalgia for me.

The revival of this thread made me wanna take a pic

Nice Momaw ! I can remember back in the day thinking, should I get these ? Could I somehow mod them to make a standard trooper.

In the end I found a reasonably priced ANH 2 pack. But little did I know how many troopers they would end up doing.

Still like the ANH over say the Rogue One sunglasses idealised type.

Thanks and totally agree. The RI style just doesn't do it for me compared to ANH and even the recent RotJ figs. That original ANH release still makes up the bulk of my stormies and are still the best. Definitely a case where later releases haven't surpassed the original one.

I find it always amazing that some people (also older OT fans) that prefer the Rogue One troopers.

I'm not judging, or saying I am right or they are right. Just really interesting because the R1 looks immediately wrong to my eye.

Saw this on Ebay. Triggered memories, believe it was my first order with Sideshow. Got it, I believe, 20% off (these were shelf warmers like shoretroopers at that time). Retail $219,99. We should be thankful for still having these prices for troopers. Later, we received the ROTJ single w/o backdrop for $187 RETAIL, cracy! Haven’t seen that again. Hope we do! HT, give us $150 Sandtroopers!

How do you all old timers pose your space troopers and ANH troopers? :)

Edit: here are some of my troopers (old sloppy pictures) IMG_9866.jpegIMG_1063.jpegIMG_2177.jpeg

Congrats on the pickup. My two (pics a few posts up) are still front and centre in the collection. I also have a four ANH stormies with the original bad gloves HT ANH Vader set up in a Jazzinc Tantive diorama. My lone (clean) R1 stormie is chilling with 2 RotJ ones. Disguise Han and Luke are in the mix as well. I may also have a sealed 2 pack of ANH stormtroopers in the cupboard too. And that's not even starting on the sideshow sandtroopers, HT sandtrooper, and the R1 Jedha troopers which are all hanging out with a SS Dewback. I'd say I have a problem but then remember Canada Clone and think "nah, it's totally cool and normal to have 20 stormtrooper dollies".

I remember these being shelf warmers as well, but that was 100% an own goal on SS's part as they limited them to one per household/person/account and so many people where begging to order a second. I mean it wasn't hard, just get a family member or friend too. That's what I did.

Edit: Dug out some older trooper pics
