I love the series but yeah, that always struck me as weird as well.

They designed a new Flametrooper but chose not to come up with a new grunt melee class. Which could’ve been another Stormtrooper variant, but they got most of the ranged roles.

Scout Troopers should be, well, scouts; out of sight and snipers when needed. In my head I’m like, damn it people use your blaster rifles! It worked before!

I don't play videogames so I haven't seen these guys in action in the game. Out of all the trooper variants, scouts seem to be the least likely to fight with batons. Just an odd choice.
They could have created something new, a trooper specifically designed to fight in close quarters.
As you say, makes much more sense to have scouts be a sniper type enemy.

Using scout suit for melee does kinda make sense, trooper can have better range of movement in that armour than in normal stormtrooper armour. Light armour good for mobility when running, using speeder bikes, swinging batons etc

I think these are simply not scouts, they just use the same armour as scouts, like how other trooper types like storm commando's use scout armour. I think the issue is that they call them scout troopers when they aren't doing any scouting. Public order enforcement trooper or something would make more sense.

I'd almost be up for a beehive Purge trooper to put opposite Cal. But I'll see what they decide to do with this line.

Saw Gerrera would be cool, but with a bit of luck they'll do him in Andor S2. I have a feeling Disney has told HT there will be way more figures possible from Andor S2, plus it matches more with Rogue One. Which is fine for me !

Anyway Jedi Survivor is a great game so far ! Am loving it. Sound and gameplay is amazing ! Coriscant is also amazing. Who wouldn't want to play a game on that planet seeing all the stuff they have been showing !!

Unfortunately for the Scout Trooper purists - @ScoutingForToys - they are most definitely canonically Scout Troopers, just Scout Troopers equipped with batons to counter the player's lightsaber. If Cal didn't have a lightsaber, they would likely be deployed with just blasters as the in-game database alludes.

They expanded the Scout Trooper mission profile and training beyond just the implied scouting, riding, and shooting as a semi retcon.

I agree with you about the armor being useful for melee because of the mobility aspect, and they even say as much in game. They could've just as easily made a new trooper with a different type of light armor though, which would've been preferable.

I've come to accept it; maybe I just got used to it. But I do still think it's an odd choice. Feels like someone at Respawn really wanted to include Scout Troopers but didn't want them using blaster rifles for some reason.

Yeah I’m loving it as well. Graphics are quite amazing (it is around 150gb) but I went for the quality over performance setting and might have to change it there are some very weird occasional Dark Forces era glitches in it (really should have screen shot it).

Back to the figures yeah it’s really just Cal I want from this and like someone said he’s unlikely. But very occasionally HT does do the unlikely.

100% they will announce a Cal figure, probably waiting for May 4th. They missed the boat with the original game as nobody knew how good it was going to turn out and be received but they have had plenty of time to get prepared for the sequel is my guess. Only a few hours into the game but my god the opening level is beautiful to just look at

As a trooper collector I think it’s pretty cool. I sold my mando version and haven’t picked up the ROTJ version. I think I will opt for this one as it looks more interesting.

Well then, they dug themselves into that hole. They should have just called them what I suggested above or, based on that blurb in the image you posted, just call them crowd control troopers, leave the implication that they use the same armour as scouts but trained for different things.

I love new trooper designs but at some point it gets too much so just using same suit for different jobs is fine by me so long as it makes sense.

Yep, definitely a weird choice for sure.

Bet those Scout Troopers wish they had those electro batons on Endor though. :lol

"Yub nub this!" *zap*

Does HT make one-off figures anymore? Does it always have to have a multi-use function?
They are going the way of Hasbro.... choosing characters they can make reuse of molds for, even if the molds aren't accurate, repaints pulled out of their rear office and rising prices that will soon make helmeted no headsculpt figures with just a stand, blaster and spare hands cost too much for the majority of collectors until eventually line dies and they start jumping on the 6 inch figure bandwagon in earnest. Or maybe I am just being cynical.

Still, we should have at least a few more years of cool figures with the occasional all time great mixed in.

I actually love the idea of buying figures with extra DLC to 3D print. Imagine your figure of Mando comes with the loadout HT gave him but it includes a code to download the gun locker from the Razor Crest with files of all the various blasters that were in it.

3D printing keeps getting more affordable and entry level resin printers like the Elegoo Mars 2 can produce high detail 1:6 accesories for use with figures.

But as you say, the cynic in me thinks they will just use home printing as excuse to not include any accessories and make you pay for extra for dlc accessories that should have been included instead....

As for 1:12 being the future... I hope not.

I grew up with 1:18 and invested almost exclusively in 1:6 since my late teens. 1:12 can co-exist but companies instead seem to be moving over to it at the expense of 1:6 and 1:18. It is the reason 1000toys lost me as a customer. They promised more 1:6 but instead just pumped out 1:12 hoping we forgot 1:6 was a thing.

Playing the game right now. And I realized a Cal would be great due to the fact we don't get many space outlaw type jedi characters other then Luke in his Bespin outfit. So this would be a huge welcome especially if the sabers are USB and come in different configuration like double blade or dual wield.

Has anyone been able to determine if Hot Toys removed that sculpted side faceplate to helmet gap they had on alll the others (Mando scout and ROTJ scout)? You know the line that suggests the faceplate lifts up like a motorcycle visor.
I couldn’t see one side shot of the helmet in any of their plethora of pictures. It’s almost like they intentionally hid the side of the helmet.

The gap is definitely there. The clearest you can see it is in the ‘accessory’ photo. The top left showing off the back equipment clearly shows the lower half of the gap on the helmet.

That is a good point. I feel sometimes these things are cyclical. We may be in a similar phase to the post-TFA/RO period with Hot Toys basing some decisions on the glut of figures sitting around like the TFA era.

RO came about on the heels of the TFA figure disaster. The RO line had some excellent figures but a huge chunk of that line was variations of Stormtroopers and Death Troopers with a handful of one-off figures. They also had much lower production numbers.

Seems plausible they'll rely on reuse a bit more than usual, sprinkle in some brand new figures, have fewer figures per line, and slowly grow it all back until something brilliant comes along again and they overproduce, starting the whole cycle over again.
