Everything we're going through now is ultimately Lucas' fault. If he had put more thought and heart into the prequels, if he had not been so butthurt about the backlash, if he had not sold his legacy to Disney, we would not be in this mess. Lucas is the unfortunately the driving reason for the best and worst of Star Wars. I can't blame the vultures at Disney for being vultures. It's just what they are. Lucas should not have sold, and I believe he regrets it.

Very true. I imagine it would have been difficult to take a step back and let others work on your creation, but Lucas could have done this without selling to another company. It ultimately would have been better for the industry too considering how dominant Disney have become, largely through buying IP and exploiting it, rather than creating new things.

People like Filoni, who Disney looks to for ideas and to help world build, were already working for Lucas when he sold. If he didn't want to actively run LucasFilm, he should have just gave others more freedom, but stayed as the figurehead and final say over things. The level of bitterness he felt over the Prequel backlash really messed with his head imo. For decades he was a living legend, the beloved creator of Star Wars, ILM, Indiana Jones etc, only to discover his legend status wasn't invulnerable and the mistakes of the Prequels were not going to be just glossed over. It's a shame, the guy is a legit creative genius, but he was too high on his own status and then too bitter about his fall from grace.

If you don’t like the character of Reva I wouldn’t blame the actress. Moses Ingram is a good actress, she’s excellent in The Queens Gambit and Tragedy of MacBeth. I would blame the quality of the writing and direction for any issues with that character.

Really? Her delivery of lines is pretty poor. The standout for me is when she walks into the spice den and says "wHerE iS hE" and it's so unconvincing and way too tryhard.

For all the love Disney gets, no one seems to realize they haven't created anything new in a very long time. They regurgitate what Walt created and they have been making millions on others work ever since.
I can’t completely agree with that. Many of the things Walt did were not original. Outside of things like Mickey, they were based on existing fairy tales etc. Post Walt, it has been the same. Plenty of regurgitation, but then there is Lilo & Stitch, Bolt, Wreck-It-Ralph, Moana, Zootopia (all great if you ask me). They tend to fall back on existing properties because audiences just don’t want to see these films. Only one or two of those were successful. They are like any business, they do what they know will be successful.

A director dictates how an actor delivers lines. Unless you are Tom Cruise.

I will backtrack a little bit lol. It’s a combination of acting, directing, writing. What I meant to say is any overacting by Ingram can’t be solely credited to her, Chow let her do it on set and it was likely there in the writing as well.

Even the clones didn't really know, Commander Fox gets killed because he didn't alert his troopers to Vaders precense and they mistook him for a Jedi.

..... And then Jocasta Nu blabbed out about how Vader was actually Anakin to the rest of the squad, and to keep them quiet Vader kills all the other troopers too.

No, Vaders real identity was not widely known. At all.

I'm sure I'll repeat what a number of others have already said but here goes.

Watching Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan is like comfort food, it just feels good. So that element right there puts a level of rose-tinted glasses over everything.

That said as usual I thought it was a typical mixed bag.

A quick summary would be that I loved Obi-Wan, Owen, Bail and young Leia. The fact that the story is centered around Leia at all was a Grogu level twist for me, which only worked because of how fantastically cast that actress was. I can't believe how well she looks and acts like how I would picture a young Carrie Fisher Leia to be in my mind.

I thought the Inquisitors were quite lame and just as I feared from the trailers Reva is quite possibly the worst villain in the history of Star Wars. She could singlehandedly destroy this entire show depending on how prominent they make her in future episodes.

I did like the overall vibe and aesthetic and changing locations and I thought that the expanded look at Alderaan was great.

The music was very mediocre despite JW's involvement.

I loved that Obi-Wan didn't come to Owen's aid. That was very "Jedi-like" and set the stage so nicely for Owen's attitude toward Obi-Wan and Luke following in his father's footsteps in ANH. That one scene was a perfect example of why he would have no love for the Jedi (they don't save you and only cause problems) and why he'd want Obi-Wan in particular to stay far away from his family (since Beru almost became a widow and Luke became fatherless right then and there.)

Unfortunately the flipside of that is the entire logic behind the Inquisitors' tactics. "The Jedi can't resist being who they are. They'll hunt themselves, expose themselves if you just give them a reason." Huh? Since when? Jedi were always capable of being aloof and detached when the greater mission called for it. We saw countless examples of that in both the PT and TCW. Opportunities where they could free slaves, come to a certain planet's military aid, even help clones that they had become friends with, only to refuse to give aid because doing so would create a greater problem. Hell as far back as ESB Yoda was urging Luke to not even help his best friends.

Did the writers of this show learn nothing of the whole concept of "attachment is forbidden?" It's one of the primary criticisms against the Jedi and would be the opposite of a major weakness that enemies could potentially exploit.

Sure I could see Jedi helping people incognito but not out in the open like that one guy in the cantina at the beginning. Then the moron immediately flees and heads straight to Obi-Wan! :slap How the Inquisitors didn't think to just track him to Obi-Wan's lair I really don't know.

Which leads me to the Inquisitors themselves. Such wishy-washy third rate bad guys. The two male inquisitors were borderline good guys with the way they never wanted to shed innocent blood?? WTF? lol. Grand Inquisitor is always reprimanding Reva for basically acting like an evil murderer? Hello does he know what side he's on, lol. And then he lets the first Jedi flee and does not tail him? That was it? Expose the guy and then let him go on his merry way, the end?

Yeah I know the guy later died and got strung up but I can't help but wonder if he simply got depressed that Obi-Wan wouldn't be his friend and just hanged himself, lol.

Death of Grand Inquisitor was very strange, did they just downgrade the entirety of Rebels to Legends status, lol.

Expanded Order 66 was super cool though I must say it felt weird watching a show open with gunmen charging into a children's classroom with a female teacher this week of all weeks.

At first I was totally distracted by the casting of Kumail Nanjiani but ended up finding his obvious improvs to be really entertaining. But the writing made very little sense. He went from swindler to full blown sacrificial hero in the span of 20 minutes? To the point where he was literally impersonating a Jedi face to face with a freaking Inquisitor?? And then not only does his character seem to do an immediate 180 Reva's persona also does an immediate 180 by just roughing him up a bit and letting him live? What??? This was a character who sliced off a woman's hand for talking back to her just a few scenes earlier and was constantly wanting to kill any and everybody who got in her way but now is apparently cool with a guy being bold/stupid enough to impersonate her arch-enemy, lie to her face, and he just gets a light shove into a wall? The whiplash over who did and didn't have plot armor from one moment to the next was making me sore, lol.

Also going back to Leia that light jog she did in the forest to evade the briskly walking bounty hunters was downright hilarious, lol. I love that they're setting the stage for how well TLJ Leia is able to slowly evade any and all pursuers, lol.

I thought that bit with Obi-Wan having compassion on the clone beggar was a nice little moment. I also really liked witnessing the moment that Obi-Wan realized that Anakin is still alive.

Like most I just want to see how things play out with the two of them. Continuing to focus on Reva will pretty much kill the show which would be one of the stupidest things that Disney has done with SW yet. Unfortunately I'm fully braced for that to occur.

That being said I'm still pretty pumped to see how things continue to unfold.

If it was widely known, people would be scouring the universe to assassinate any relatives.

To a certain extent, I can't even blame them. Why make something new when you can re-render Lion King in CG and make over a billion dollars? Audiences en masse seem to want to just 'remember the thing'. I'm already tired of the meta, multi-verse, cross-over trend and I fear it's only just begun.

Sadly I'd guess the early success also went to Lucas' head. He was far more collaborative for the OT, but had unlimited powah for the PT.

Some art/film books say that the best art comes from limitations, time, money etc. Having all the money and say so isn’t conducive to great art.

Do you think Vader will do something like take one of Revas hands as payment for her defiance/attempt to kill GI? He has killed people for far less - indeed, killed people for no reason - and i dont see him tolerating her insolence well.

He is also fond of taking limbs from his inquisitors so that they, like himself, will know the pain of Loss. Hmmmmm.

Has he so far only introduced himself as Ben... Perhaps her father never tells her his real name also. So that would help solve that issue.
That could work. So in ANH she thought she was sending a message to "Obi-Wan" (war hero who fought with her father) but then in her cell on the Death Star Luke surprises her by saying he brought Ben (the guy who saved her from kidnappers) to which she was all "wait, what? Where?" which actually does kind of fit with how she delivered her lines.

Not sure how I feel about Obi-Wan using the Force to save her though. It was a nice scene within the context of the show but her comment to Luke in ROTJ that "you have a power that I don't understand, and could never have" always indicated to me that she didn't have first hand experience with people using the Force prior to meeting Luke, and on herself no less.

I love this show, watched again a third time today. I like Reva, I find her more interesting than anyone from the ST, even GI was interesting. Ewan is fantastic, little Leia is fun.

My only issue is that my wish was for him to learn Anakin survived by running into him by surprise, not through someone else, but at least Ewan played the reaction perfectly. Can’t wait to see him dealing with it in part 3.
I've only watched it once so far, but I walked away surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The things I had heard about ahead of time that I had expected to be annoyed by like young Leia and Reva were both actually better than I anticipated. Young Leia was especially well done...her Alderaan scenes were very good. Reva was good enough to interest me in seeing where it goes. Only two episodes in so the potential for bait and switch on her becoming the lead here is still pretty high. We'll see... It should stay as Kenobi's story.
Ewan completely sold me with his performance here. Really loved it. And Chow is quickly proving that her good Mando episodes were no fluke. She even managed to make another roof pursuit much more engaging than the laughable one in BOBF through skillful editing, staging and lighting.
Again, only two episodes in, but off to a solid start for me.

The only time I enjoyed a single moment of Reva being on screen was watching her doing the parkour rooftop chase. It did look pretty cool and definitely was a huge step up from what we saw in the first episode of BOBF.

This is exactly what I thought too, but for the opposite rationale.

I doubt she believes that the Kenobis are the two most amazing brothers in the galaxy.

Liam Neeson is returning to voice Qui-Gon in Tales of the Jedi, so seems like he may reprise the role for this show too hopefully.
