And a need for someone hotter than Kelly McGillis. Enter Jennifer Connolly......pun intended...
I don't think Maverick would be interested anymore...

:exactly:

Mav gets summoned back to Top Gun to teach a new crop of fighter pilots.

Obviously not the total plot, but it does seem like a faint hint.

"Mav returns to teach" just isn't exactly the most exciting storyline hint is all I'm saying. The visuals are fun and well done (and nostalgic,) and the return of the character onscreen is cool, but I'm just curious generally what this is about, especially with a much-changed world since 1986.

And to be clear, I'm talking a HINT at the arena of the story and how that conflicts with who Mav is, not a spoiler list of plotpoints or a "give the whole movie away in 2.30 mins."

The idea that trailers shouldn't even hint at what the story is is kinda silly and more suggests the "brand loyalty" concept of sequels/reboots/remakes: "show up simply because you liked the last one."

I was thinking hints along the lines of "in-crisis US fading as a superpower" "pilots in era of drones" "return of bad Russia" "rise of China/South China Sea" (well, okay, that would be no-go:lol) "era of asymmetric warfare" "conventional war is over" etc etc.

There's really nothing in the trailer that hints at actual story beyond Mav as teacher up front - which is fun to see the rebel as the teacher, but there's nothing in the trailer that vaguely hints at even how that conflict will play out.

Fair enough.

But you know how the saying goes: We have to pas..I mean you have to see the film so that you can find out what is in it. :lol

Some folks need to see it to believe it. I remember thinking she was the hottest thing ever back in 1986.

I think she was like 29 when she did Top Gun and Cruise was 22 or 23 so she had a few years on him... Plus some people just don't age as well as others...

I can't wait for this movie... :panic:

Well, what I understand from the trailers is that Maverick is a Top Gun teacher and then he gets called to active duty on an aircraft carrier for some undisclosed reason/threat... not sure what the hell it could be, but maybe some Ukrainian separatists? Or something with Iran/Syria/ISIS?

Oh, and I thought this was pretty cool.
Cruise's face at the end says it all.

Now I really can't wait to see it... It's going to be awesome at the IMAX...

Well, I don't think that has much to do with ageing badly, and everything to do with just letting yourself go and not giving a ****...

NO! it's about lifestyle and choices. Not excuses. Nobody should looks like that at her age genetics, be damned.

Jesus, you know some people have medical reasons for aging badly and/or putting on weight. Plus, she is in her 60s...

I look forward to putting on a few pounds when I reach her age. I'm gonna enjoy my food in the last part of my life. :nana: Why anyone wants to live into their 90s is beyond me. Every family member I've had who lasted that long was in misery with physical and mental ailments.

You know.... I've never seen the original Top Gun.
I generally love cheesy 80's movies but not sure going back and watching one of them for the first time now will be bearable.
No idea why I never watched Top Gun. I watched all the cheesy 80's action movies when they first came out.
Anyway, trailer for this looks alright but never having watched the first one, not sure I'm fussed about seeing this.
