Gold plastic was like that for many, many years, almost every figure with gold plastic which wasn't made in the past few years will experience Gold Plastic Syndrome, it absolutely sucks but there's nothing you can do about it, some figures will just crumble in the box by themselves and nobody really knows why, the best explanation I've seen is the plastic and coloring are so poorly bonded that the structure is compromised with air gaps, making the whole gold part of your figure fall apart when you apply even the slightest pressure to it.

Welp. Your post made me google this. I never knew there was even a gold plastic issue, and there's an entire article dedicated to it on Wiki.

I also happen to have some decades old Beast Wars figures with gold plastic. Haven't taken them out in decades, so I can only wonder how they've been holding up.

Yeah, and the parts in question are either spring tension points or retain the ratcheted parts. SOL on this one... eventually I'll try and fix it someday, but I think it's a lost cause overall.

That's awful. Can you take several pics of the other gold plastic areas to show the extent of the damage?

Thinking back, the Mass Produced RAY was such an awful choice for ThreeA. The Marines version would've been superior. As far as I can tell, there wasn't any gold on the Marines RAY, just flesh colored joints and musculature.

Maybe I'm extremely late on the discovery. Had this thing since release, maybe I got a ****** 3A Metal Gear Ray, or perhaps it's just due to cheap plastic and time... both inner mechanisms for its "Arms/Wings/Whatever" completely shattered. That's with pushing the button to collapse them. So be warned if you own this, it's like gluing porcelain back together.
Yeah, they are ****** in quality. For example I was always very delicate with REX, but it's falling apart on it's own, so I never move it anymore. The same thing with RAY. 3A can go to hell. If you've them somewhere, you should never move them anymore.

That sucks! Your REX and RAY looked fine a few pages back, did something happen when you tried to move them recently?

For me, I've had my figures boxed for years, so they're definitely not experiencing any problems right now. I'll tell you though, those ratchet joints on REX are scary. It feels too tight, or as if something is ready to give way whenever I move them.

ThreeA engineering is pretty sub-par. They look imposing, but neither figure feels high quality to say the least.

No, they are fine. I mean I had some crubling experienced with RAY in the past. REX is very unbalanced and top heavy, if you found a stable pose, you can never move it again.

Sorry for the delay, just been utterly disappointed with this thing. If I'd only known years ago this would of been an issue, I'd never of bought this. Always hated the short tail anyways.

This is the left leg, cracked in two places. I glued one crack. Not gonna bother anymore. Inner parts of the legs are shattered, I can hear the rattle. Thing is doomed...

Geeze, and to think we paid over $500 for this. Those definitely look like stress-related fractures on the plastic. Maybe you can try 3D printing some replacement parts for the failing gold pieces?

I was never a big fan of the Mass Produced RAY model from MGS 4, and I really wish we had a Marines RAY figure in this scale. The different color scheme alone would've solved the issue with corroding gold plastic. The long tail could've also balanced the figure without the need for a stand.

More hilarity from Ebay. Some weirdo took an old, beat-up copy of Metal Gear (NES), sent it in for grading at "WATA", and is now selling it for $509 on Ebay. Besides WATA being a downright scam, you can find non-graded copies that are in better condition for significantly less (often times below $100).

I was taking inventory of my MGS collection today and decided to post a few pictures of the "Limited Edition Premium Package". Do any of you guys have it? It's been incredibly hard to come by in good condition, because the boxes were fragile and easy to damage. The LE Premium Packages also weren't factory sealed in a cellophane wrap like the Japanese release, which only added to the issue.

In any case, what made this Premium Package special from the Japanese release, was the inclusion of a humongous, double-sided Gray Fox/Meryl poster, and a black Shinkawa style t-shirt. I placed the t-shirt to the side by accident, so that's why it's not included in the photos :lol.

Right now, I'm trying to collect the PAL region games, but it seems like new copies aren't available anymore. I especially need that Steel Book of MGS 2.

Thats a nice set, I've never owned any of these limited editions but i would of framed that poster for sure.

Wow, that takes me back a bit. I got one of those sets years ago when it was released, I don't think I have it anymore, if I do it's in storage in England (been in the US 16 years).

Yeah, I plan on doing it eventually. It's a really huge, non-standard size poster, so custom framing will be a fairly large investment. So, I'll save this for last, as I've got a bunch of other (smaller) official B2 sized MGS posters that still need framing - some of which I've just recently acquired. My plan is to get all of my custom framing done before this time next year.

It would be cool if you still have it! It's one of the rarer collectibles of the franchise, and the contents of it are just awesome. Generally speaking, the UK had some pretty rad editions for MGS.

I also picked up brand new (sealed) copies of MGS 3 Subsistence and the 20th Anniversary Collection. The Japanese first-edition of Subsistence is comparable to the more limited red box Subsistence LE, that was released as a Gamestop exclusive in the States. And like the Gamestop exclusive LE, it also includes the Existence disc as a bonus.

As for the MGS 20th Anniversary Collection, I always wish there was an English region release of this instead of the "Essential Collection". The box is thick and it looks premium. The silver foil coating also reminds me of a Premium Package release.

In any case, the boxes are pretty huge, so they're going to be sharing a book shelf with my mangas, until I find a nicer display shelf for them :lol. I made sure to double bag these in polybags for added protection.

It's a really nice model kit, though - much more accurate in proportion compared to ThreeA's release. The factory gray color of the parts is also somewhat accurate to REX's original color scheme from MGS 1. So, if painting's not your thing, just spraying a flat top-coat over the individual parts (or desired sections) will even out the color quite nicely and give it a matted look.

As for the mini figures, they don't have to be super detailed once painted, but I think they're a cool addition.

The one thing I love about this model kit, is that you can pretty much pose it however you want. I still have yet to paint mine :lol. I really want a camo look for my REX, but that's going to take some time to finish.

Doesn't seem so. I'm also wondering how far down the pipeline these figures are. I recall there was a Sneaking Suit V that was teased months back before MGS 1 and 2 Snake.
