I'd say so. Spawned a bunch of sequels that prob watered it down like The Matrix but still made a big impact.

Not saying I love many of them, but culturally, a lot of those movies are still referenced today and were a big deal back then.
I wonder how American Beauty is holding up these days with Kevin Spacey cancelled. That really was his zenith. Must suck for those producers.

There are some decent movies like Entrapment and Thomas Crown that are largely forgotten these days. Even Blair Witch you don't hear about as much as you used to, maybe because the gimmick just wasn't as fresh in the era of smartphone cameras.

Stuff like Haunting, Gadget, Runaway Bride and General's Daughter were junk then and now.

Matrix is literally the only great movie from 1999 then LOTR arrived in 2001 and redefined cinema again.

90’s had so few great movies.

Great…not good or just ok but Great!

Great as in T2, JP, Heat, TL and of course Matrix.

TPM lol

Man the build up to Matrix 2 was almost as great as the build up to TDK but nope lol

So, for those that have read all the spoilers, can you say why Morpheus is young? Without completely spoiling the movie? Is that a HUGE spoiler? I assume there is a reason why he is a different age while Neo and Trinity are their current age? I know one of the rumors was that this is not neo and trinity, but given the flashback showing neo's damaged eyes from part 3, it seems clear that Neo is at least Neo. Wonder if Trinity exists as a simulation only? Then we see a shot of her being 'reborn' so no clue?

Whatever the reason, that is the one bummer about an otherwise killer trailer: no Lawrence Fishburne! I'm surprised at how damn good that trailer was. I will be honest, I had little hope for this movie. But, fewer cooks in the kitchen = good thing.

Problem with the sequels: the ambition of filming two sequels back-to-back, filming scenes for the video game, and producing the Animatrix all at the same time DID NOT HELP the overall quality of the movies.

It's all enough to make one say, 'WHOA!'

I remember some girl in Matrix 2 at the end yelling something because of the cliffhanger. I was prepped for it as they announced the third one was coming in 6 months time. Dumb b****. They showed her with another sh***y movie lol.

To say anything would completely spoil it so you are SOL lol

Ok, cool - i kinda figured. Thanks. As long as it's explained in the movie. Still holding out hope for a cameo from the OG Morpheus, but realize Fishburne did an interview where he stated ' no one called me for the movie!

That must suck; expecting to get the call on a potentially huge movie and get jack squat.

I hope Jonathan Groff is not the main villain. He's an amazing actor, and is killer as Mad King George in Hamilton, but he is not an intimidating presence.

Not knowing spoilers, and going off the trailer, 'going back to where it all started - the Matrix!' Am I reading into that line too much? If they are not in the Matrix nor the real world? Where are they? I noticed that color plays a huge role with glasses, hair, etc. But the green/blue light filters seems to be missing? Hmm.....

I'll spoiler tag it, since it is kind of a spoiler.

Thanks for being a little general. Of course, I had to look. Very, very interesting.

This is turning into a mindjob! They could make this movie dark as hell........so much potential.

And really plays into the idea of what is reality?

Reading the reddit Matrix thread, yeah, a lot of people are pumped for this. The trailer dissection is on point with Marvel movies. Looks like a lot of people are ready for a new Matrix. Something about mystery, cyberpunk and superhuman abilities all together. The action scenes look wicked as usual, I hope it delivers, but there is just too much rehashing at this point to make it a great movie IMO.

And you read on and find things like this:

There were a few more great movies from the 90s than that! Fight Club, Saving Private Ryan, American History X, Glengarry Glenn Ross, Goodwill Hunting, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Unforgiven, LA Confidential, Schindler's List...

True I didn’t name them all but that entire list there would fill up only 1 year in the 80’s lol

But yes Seven and SPR I would place in the great category the others are good but not exciting enough of a genre movie for my liking.
