It's a shame the Sideshow version kinda stole this one's thunder, as it's an absolutely fantastic looking R2.

I don't understand. Didn't Sideshow release theirs years ago? The HT version is more recent.

Yeah, but by the time the HT came out most people here were happy enough with their Sideshow R2, and so had much less interest in the new one. If Sideshow hadn't beat them to it there would have been a ton more excitement for the HT.

This is a far superior version of R2 compared with the Sideshow one. Well worth the upgrade. I was lucky to not pay full price as I had some rewards saved up with Alter Ego at the time.

That may be the case, but its inability to shut off the holoprojector light independently from the other lights was a deal-breaker for me. Also having the Tamashii Nations diecast as well as the Sideshow figure made it that much harder for me to justify the addition of another 1/6 Artoo.

I agree, though I'd remove "far" from that statement.

I have two of these and two of the Sideshow and with the dome mod done on the Sideshow, I'd argue they are a little closer than people make out.

That said, I do love the blue and bright white they used on this figure though - it just screams onscreen ANH R2. The paint work is just exceptional.

What's the dome mod? I've heard it mentioned before and would love to know more in case my WL for the HT doesn't convert and I go for the SS. Thanks :hi5:
I've got mine display like a pin cushion! I installed every single arm included.

If my WL converts (hoping for a Christmas miracle  ), I'll do the same. I know some just like to display him just standing there but i think there's a lot of display fun to be had with all those arms he comes with.

The SSC dome looks a bit better when the heavy weathering is selectively toned down with a wipe with some alcohol. Looks a bit more metallic.

I did that years ago ... opinions differ but I?ve owned the SSC, the Tama, and both HT releases and like the HT Deluxe best.

The Tama would have been my favourite based on proportions if it weren?t for the resin (plastic?) dome, which doesn?t read as metal to me.

The dome mod is fine so far as surface effect goes, but mine was one of the many examples that had the seam stick out like dogs bawls. One day I'll sand it back, but until I do I can't stand looking at the thing :lol

I finally picked this guy up as a birthday present to myself. Looking forward to his arrival. Now if only they'd finally give us a C-3PO...

I was tempted by that back in the day, but waited to see how their R2 turned out, and wasn't sold on it when it popped up. Might have to keep an eye out for the C-3PO now, but I imagine the prices are pretty up there for it by this point.

I think there's a fair chance we'll see C-3PO pop up in one of the Star Wars shows, Andor maybe, so maybe that would finally give Hot Toys enough of a kivk to make one...

I hope not. I'm tired already of HT skipping the OT versions of characters and doing the other versions instead. Look at how many RO sandtroopers they did but skipped the ANH sergeant. Mando Tusken over ANH and there's talk of a Mando Death Star Trooper? I don't want a wide 3PO because Daniel's put weight on in his old age, I want a slim, silver legged, dented head 3PO.
