Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Snyder rushed the story. He went from Krypton to Darkseid in 2 movies? He should have waited and developed the story and characters more. Having the director of Suicide Squad say F marvel didn’t help things either.

I forgot about that. How embarrassing. That's like the director of Logan's Run saying "Eff this new George Lucas guy what does he know," lol.

He talked about that moment in People magazine. :(

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

So going by Joe Russo's statements that a soul taken by the Soul Stone is gone forever and time travel creating alternate realities instead of changing the past Gamora kind of becomes the most tragic character in the MCU. At least when BW perma-died it was more or less on her terms. But Gamora was sent over that cliff punching and screaming.

And yeah Cap marries a duplicate Peggy instead of the one he previously knew but at least his Peggy would still "know" him if he entered that reality after the time that he crashed Skull's plane. Star-Lord's new Gamora (if you can call her that) will never be able to recall any of their shared experiences built over three entire films and all the years between. Damn. Harsh.

Heres a problem I have always had with IW.

Gamora asks Quill to kill her rather than let Thanos have her, we are to assume she somehow knew that he would use her to get the soul stone.

Yet she is still surprised and fearful when she realizes how much he really does care for her and she is the sacrific he will need to make?

Why was she so forceful that Quill hill her rather than turn her over to Thanos? Cause shes scared of his wrath? Seems a bit thin....

Definitely true about Gamora.

But you mention Peggy being a 'duplicate' and I'm not sure that's accurate. Everything up to the 2023 Steve reentering her life was his Peggy exactly as he knew her - the alternate reality version technically only begins when he shows up.

The films themselves really do suggest that Rage Hulk was just beaten into non-existence by Thanos don't they.

That sucks. They must fix this.

That’s a great question but nah I don’t think so it literally took him standing up and facing a world ending event right at ground zero in a sacrificial play to grant him an opening to accept Odin’s power and one can then view the arrival of all the heroes as that power going into him.

Is anyone else slightly bummed though that even with the hammer and the power of Odin it still only gave Cap the brief ability to surprise Thanos and knock him around a bit before Thanos again regained the upper hand? I always had the idea that when it happened (we all knew it would happen) it would have Cap directly defeating Thanos although perhaps not without himself sustaining fatal injury.

At the time she simply didn't want Thanos knowing the location of the Soul Stone, which she feared he would be able to extract from her should she be captured. She didn't want to be responsible for his wiping out 1/2 of all life in the universe. She had no idea what was required of Thanos in exchange once he arrived at said location.

Oh man back to the "it messes with your head" stuff, lol. That's right it's a branching reality from the point of entry with no parallel branch representing any of the events prior. So I'm going to pretend that the "real" Peggy from TFA continued into the new branch created by Steve and the old Peggy in TWS who married someone else was the alternate one, lol. Yes I think I might prefer that.

Man I freaking love reading the different takes on this film.

Thanos didn't know either. It's a stroke of luck that he brought Gamora along.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

So sad for JAWS... 2019 going to be a record year and the end of many franchises as we know them, but only suckiness from Marvel and now JAWS has to wait for more suckiness in December from Star Wars. For him, this year will be remember as sucky... he must reach back to commercials for solace... yet, 2019 is the biggest movie year that will be for many years to come.

First world dilemma.

Worst news for JAWS: before the year's end, there will be an announcement of the remake of the original "Jaws"... and Seth Rogen is tapped to play Matt Hooper.

If Godzilla turns out great.... Well then this year will be a win overall for me.

Just posting this article link because, well - yeah.

https://io9.gizmodo.com/its-audacious-that-avengers-endgame-even-exists-1834398548

When you REALLY think about it.

Which I haven't 'coz EG is enough to think about. *&^% I may go see it again.

Glad this article mentions the quality of the actors 'coz that's something I've thought about before, all along.

Also the Russos are saying the spoiler ban lifts Monday (what spoiler ban, except for pretty well behaved websites like this one but a lot of places didn't give a *&&^)

Man what a great article, thanks for sharing that. But it really does put into words one of the main reasons that I think AEG is the pinnacle of cbm/superhero cinematic entertainment. Way beyond a TDK or a Logan. The sheer audacity to even try what they did, and to see it through after 11 years, and nail it on the very first try! This achievement literally can't be replicated again. Even with another universe, franchise, or Marvel's own Phase 4, 5, or 6.

I don't know that I ever thought I'd see another film that redefined a cinematic event after Star Wars but here we are. What Lucas did, what the MCU did, I just can't even imagine what it would take to equal those achievements from this point forward.

And after yesterday it's now at $1.6 billion worldwide and is primed to pass $2 billion by the end of *its second weekend.* :thud:

As many have already stated, it has a better chance of passing Avatar globally than it does TFA domestically.
After Thursday's estimates, it's currently made $509 million in China.

Welcome:)! Right now the WHOLE era - thinking about it is just too much - it's too big. One magical thing for me (even tho am sure a lot of planning went on behind the scenes) - of how the whole thing grew and the world LOVED these characters. It felt organic, even if maybe there was a LOT of thinking going on.

Because the filmmakers never know - not really - and the audience doesn't know - really. Not till you are in the chair munching popcorn.

I've got a lot of moments over the years when I was transported by an MCU movie, but I'll always remember a half-filled Wednesday night theater, full of tired folks that had just got off work, and how lit that theater was after IM1 was over. Applauding and cheering. For me it all began, right then.:clap

But that would remove the focus away from Stark defeating Thanos.
