My grandmother escaped the Nazis during world war two and that's how that side of my family ended up in Australia. I was a target for Nazi skinheads growing up as an Asian. I take this "nonsense" a lot differently.

That's the problem - Pepe the frog was/is a 4chan meme that people have used in a variety of contexts. But Spencer, via the KKK, is appropriating it as a nod to fellow white supremacists. Trump Jnr. used it in an instagram post, which explains why a lot of Trump supporters embraced it. Some say Trump Jnr was dog-whistling, others make a more generous assessment.

Lejuan is correct, and in more recent times, Pepe was adopted as symbol of the alt-right (Nazis) who were supporting Trump. Quite frankly, the Trump supporters who didn't understand the symbolism, and who aren't racist, should've stopped using Pepe as their Internet avatars a long time ago. I suspect most of them were high school kids. But, I'm not one to advocate the innocence of adolescent children in this day in age, because I'm sure they fully understood what they were doing.

It's a weird line because I'm all for free speech but I think we'd be much better off if you could still punch a guy in the mouth for being a dbag without being arrested.

I know Shia lebouf is everything wrong with the world but he should be able to sock that guy in the mouth who said hitler did nothing wrong.

An issue that is overlooked when someone silences an unpopular person is that the person shutting someone else down is basically deciding for YOU the value of someone else's speech. That person is making a decision for you that the unpopular person should not be heard.

Consequences should not include violence. Period. The person can be shunned, or lose their job. Or You can walk away. You don't have to listen to what he has to say. Change the channel. You have the same right to speak as the the unpopular speaker so say something to the contrary.

one reason why the police escort the KKK is to protect them while they speak because yes, the KKK has a right to speak as well.

Another issue is that ppl won't present unpopular opinions if they're afraid of being punched. If you permissively condone someone getting punched then unpopular speech will be chilled, and somewhat suppressed.

Yes, his right to say something that gets him punched in the face is absolutely protected. From that point, he is responsible for what he says.
