Such is Life - Ned Kelly
Well the economic times are in decline. The stock markets are taking a battering, and confidence is low. One of the first casualties of commodity spending is usually toys.
We've had the discussion about Sideshows, apart form other companies, leap of prices and what we think may be causes, and how it will impede our spending. Now we are in these uncertain times, how will it affect your collecting?
For me, my currency has taken a 30% fall against the greenback, translating into a 30% rise in prices and the cost of shipping, causing the retail price to, in practicality, double. For the pre-orders I have already paid for, I am happy, but it will mean that some of the dealers will be taking a hit on those items when they fall due. I expect they may change their policies and charge when the item is ready to ship in future. On items that I have pre-ordered, that will be charged when they ship, I expect I may have to cancel some.
This is just the initial phase, and so far I don't think the worst has trickled down through the system, and the impact is yet to be felt by us as collectors. I say that, mainly because I don't see much change in peoples behaviours, and little discussion specifically on this subject. So I thought I'd bring it up.
So how is it/will it affect your collecting style? How does it translate to your particular situation? What do you envisage it as likely or remotely changing your behaviours. Will you cut down spending to accumulate funds, for a kill in the aftermath, when people become more desparate to sell, and need cash more that collectibles? What will you do?
How do you see it affecting companies such as Amoktime, who are valiantly trying to bring new and less mainstream figures to the market. Enterbay, being at the upper end of the market, currently, and intending to compete on the middle and lower ends as well.
