Don't watch a huge amount of films these days especially at the movies as there seems to be just so much crap released these days.

Anyway i watched Martin Scorsese's The Departed earlier on fox and whilst i enjoyed it for sure i am undecided on whether to pick it up on dvd.

So i was just wondering in my boredom for anyone that has seen it what u thought and without giving to much away for anyone that might want to take a look later.Cheers.;)

I bought it on Blu-ray last year. I think its worth a purchase. I liked it alot. And have watched it a couple times.

The ending is pretty bad ass.

I thought it was worth picking up, but unfortunately there's not much there as far as special features go. I would have liked a commentary track from Scorsese.

Great movie. I'm waiting for the version with Scorsese's commentary. I'm a bit surprised it wasn't on this one.

I think that the increasingly short window between theatrical and home video release is making it harder to get the proper quality and quantity of supplemental material prepared in time. If they aren't in full production on the bonus features during the making of the film itself (as with King Kong, etc.) then the initial DVD can be a bare bones affair when it comes out six weeks after the premiere, lol. I do hope that Scorsese is involved in a more elaborate video release of the film that earned him his Oscar.

I made the mistake of downloading the song near the end "Shipping Off To Boston." It's a great song but I know that the next time I watch the BluRay that moment in the film isn't going to have the grab-you-in-the-guts power that it used to.

I too am waiting for the audio commentary track so instead when I wanted to buy it I got the BluRay of Goodfellas instead. Holds up after all these years except now all the groundbreaking story devices have become cliche as the film was so influential. Still, a great way to spend a couple hours.

Fantastic movie. Saw it in the theater, own it on Blu as well. You should also check out the original movies as well, great films.

I think you're right about the release window. Movies do seem to come out in a lot shorter time period than before.

I'm sure there will be commentary from Scorsese. I think he's done it for all of his movies. I'm just tired of getting burned by having to by a movie twice, and still haven't bought Casino Royale because of the lack of any real extra features.

Thanks guys.:cool:Was leaning towards getting it and i'm not to concerned about bonus features on this one so will pick it up for the AU12 i just saw it is now advertised for :D.

Haven't got a HDTV so no use buying a Blu-ray player as yet but was just wondering what brand players are the best at this early stage or do u guys use your PS3's?

PS3 is the best Blu-ray player you can get, pretty much. It was rated better than most (if not all, but not sure) players on the market, even better than Sonys stand alones that have come out. Updating it via the internet is a HUGE bonus.
