"Super Heroes" - Legos that aren't Legos

I bought a set of these for my Son, he loves Iron Man. I was wondering if anyone has bought any of these "non-Legos"? They all say "compatible with Legos". Anyone have any?

Looks like bootlegs from stolen molds. Says no box and comes from Hong Kong. I'd be careful, it's been reported that these type of toys have dangerous plastics and paints.

There's some different bootlegs. Look identical but are actually just cheap copies.

I got some for my lego mad children. Aprt from clearly being knock offs and having some poor detailing they're fine. I'm sure they will be destroyed or lost so I didn't want to spend a fortune.

My oldest has the genuine marvel ones as well but as I say there's a fairly high rate of attrition esp of accessories

Thanks! My Son actually plans on displaying them on a shelf in his play room. I'm thinking about going to the Lego store and buying a bucket of bricks to build a Hall of Armor for him. We built him some shelves for his "don't play with, only display" toys. So far he hasn't touched anything on them.

Yea I'd say for the most part no big deal but if you're giving these to younger kids make sure they don't put stuff in their mouth. They aren't made with any standards of safety and likely use the cheapest paint etc they can get which is usually toxic.

A lot of bootleg toys contain high levels of lead in the paint and in some cases even phthalates which is actually illegal to use in toys in a lot of places.

I would highly recommend to AVOID these kind of toys.

I have family that works at the Belgian customs office and whenever toys of this origin arrive, they need to be opened and tested. About 65% of the time, they won't let them through and destroy them because they're dangerous. This could be because of brittle plastic, paint, type of plastic, dangerous electronics, ..

maybe you should see if they have blanks and just hand paint them if the paint is the problem in these.

No. Any brand that is not sold in regular retailers (thus not discount shops like Poundland, Dollartree, Euroshop, such things) and/or doesn't have official branding (company logo, Marvel logo, correct names/logos for characters) is fake and not worth the risk. You don't know if they're dangerous until it's too late, in most cases. Only buy officially branded ones.

Currently a lot of countries are trying to get a complete ban on these kind of toys.

From what I know some of these are directly pirateD from LEGO because they came from the same factory and even uses official LEGO paint. Its hard to find factories that you can trust in China. I was told that the apaint are the same used for official LEGO products but still these are made with a lower standard.

However, most of these fake brands, probably ones with non LEGO legs are bootlegs of the pirated fake LEGOs, those have even worse QCs
So be careful if you plan on giving these to young kids

Just remember to wash your hands before you eat Cof. Should be fine.
And dont pay too much for these bootlegs. They are dirt cheap in Hong Kong, HKD 60 for set of 6 which roughly works out to 1.50USD per minifigure

I'd still advice against it to be safe. It'd be better to spend a bit more and get the real deal. I've personally handled bootlegs and noticed even if you put them on display, the colours fade, parts doesn't hold together very well (my mate had a tiny knight set of fake Legos and the bricks just popped loose without handling), paint can start cracking, decals rub off, ..

Also, very important, do not put these on any material like light plastics or wood. Due to the sort of paint and plastics used, bootlegs are known to leave stains on materials after they've been in the same spot for a while.

Also make sure that everyone who touches them thoroughly washes their hands.

I have a set of these and my brother has a set of the superman.
It's pretty close to Lego and though some detail and paint is missing, less than $10 a set plus a light up stand for $5 was a perfect deal
