Which 1 of you is at NY customs molesting my BL parcel? It's been stuck there for daysssssssssssssssssssssssss :gah:

I got friends in all different places... Moahahahaha !!!

I didn't leave, just haven't commented in a while :)
I have been amazed at some of the rare pics you've posted recently though! Where do you get them?! I've got 20+ years of Lee books and scoured the net years ago and most of what you've post I've never seen! :horror

Yeah I realize they released the old version as a hardcover and I missed that. Would love a hardcover slipcase of the new remastered revised one! I realize the new set is $100, just saying I would gladly pay $150 for a hardcover slipcase one.

That celebriduck is horrible :lol....but we both know the Lee estate's number 1 goal has always been to make as much money as possible by giving the license to anyone with cash...some of the stuff over the years has been horrific ....to be honest Shannon seems a great improvement over Linda when it comes to licensing.

Hey SAB,

It is good to know that you are still with us.

There are allot of unseen material - both in terms of pictures, film (private and movie related), writings and audio recordings - of Bruce Lee. After the birth of internet, more and more people are connecting on daily bases on a much easier and more comfortable (not always of course) ways of socialising and sharing good stuff. I always make sure that the pictures and stuff I try to share here on this forum, and other places have either been posted on the internet before, or I would ask the person I got a picture or information from if it is okay to post it (in which I of course will credit the person). There have been a handful of Bruce Lee internet forums (like this one) with allot of fans sharing and discussing topics of Bruce Lee - but like any big group of people there are bound to be some how wants to stand out and make trouble for the rest of us good folks, and the Bruce Lee forum scene has taken quite a few blows. There have been allot of fruitful years in the ten years I have been involved on the Bruce Lee forums, but unfortunately some individuals has manage to do so much damage that the scene are more or less dead now. I will not get into details other than what I have just told, but I can tell you that during those fruitful years allot of rare and high quality pictures appeared on different forums by collectors who have collected and paid hundred of dollars for each pictures. Now I do not know how familiar you are with the Bruce Lee forum scene, but the best years where during the days when the Japanese forum and website “20th Century Warriors” was up and running. Bruce Lee fans from all over the world visited the forum daily - even multiple times each day - to find allot of super cool and super rare pictures of Bruce. Some of them where mind blowing - especially since they also where so clear. With photos from collectors in Japan, USA and Europe - there was “the best of both worlds” as people had pictures from his movies and personal life in USA, and some of the stuff that some of the Japanese collectors with pictures of Bruce (both movie and personal related) have been so rare that it even amazed some of the hard core fan and collectors in USA and Europe. I think during this period allot of rare for even those of us who have collected books and magazines on Bruce Lee where amazed by the wealth of unseen material that was even clearer and in an original state (un-cropped , colour, etc.) compared to pictures in the officially published material. Most of the pictures I have are from the forums, which I have been given permission to post on this forum - but of course I have also allot of pictures and even some film material that has not been shown even on the internet. By the way, as I have stated before I am just a fan, and no way I am a super-collector or a historian that has all the answers - but I just try to contribute if I can to the fellow Bruce Lee fan. Unfortunately the Bruce Lee internet scene has gone almost dead now, because of certain individuals who craves for attention (which they will take even if it means negative attention) by spreading lies and posting insulting stuff, making trouble both on and off the forums. (sorry for rambling on here… hehe..) Anyways, what I am trying to say here is that there is allot of unseen material… Hehe…

About the new release of “Tao of Jeet Kune Do” is that the exclusive package has not been sold out. I am not sure if the book in this package is hardcover or soft cover, but I got this anyways because I am a collector and a Bruce Lee fan geek… Hehe… But I would not as far as buying that rube duck bath tube thingy… I have to draw the limit there… About that “celebriduck” thing, I think it was actually licensed during the time when Shannon took over so she might actually be the person to blame - and she has listed this on her web site shop - though I would have burned the lot if I where her… Now about Shannon being better than Linda to run the Bruce Lee Estate/Enterprises/Foundation there is different opinions about that - I do not want to go into details about all of what is happening behind the scenes, but I can tell you that she wants to brand Bruce Lee’s name and image and at the same time make as much money as she can (as you also know). There is still the lack of union among the old students of Bruce Lee - for instance Dan Inosanto is not allowed to teach Jeet Kune Do in California (and I think also not in the United States) without the approval of Shannon. If that is not bad she did threaten to sue her own flesh and blood (Bruce’s siblings) when they made the movie “Bruce Lee: My Brother” and because of that a lot of plans and projects around that movie had to be dropped because of a possible lawsuit. By the way, this of what I have told you are not secrets - as it has been reported in the news and officially on the internet:

“BLE has declared an aggressive program to protect the integrity of the Bruce Lee brand in the United States and internationally. Kris Storti, COO and General Counsel, will coordinate this program. Says Storti, “We are re-doubling our efforts around the world. We are absolutely committed to a vigorous protection of the Bruce Lee brand and our intellectual property, and plan to pursue legal action whenever necessary. This, unfortunately, includes the recently announced biopic by JA Media and Robert Lee.”

…of course this is only the tip of the iceberg…

How ever what I think is positive is the gatherings they are arranging each year in different cities, and the Mixed Martial Arts connection they are now working hard on (though my personal views is that MMA is NOT Jeet Kune Do, which some might think, but they are discovering stuff now that Bruce was researching over 30 years ago - but I will not go into details or discussions on that - but I see this partly because of the “branding” commitment Shannon is working on, which might profit for many parts (Dana White [UFC promoter/“boss“], MMA community, Shannon/BLE, Bruce Lee and MMA/UFC fans, etc.). But in my personal opinion she lacks business and marketing experience as she seems to doing most things wrong in terms of “merchandise” licensing, her own products, etc. - and all this should have been done in a more “proper” and true-to-Bruce way as it has gone too far now to rather building a strong “brand”, the total package we as fans and those that are interested in Bruce Lee is not really good in my personal opinion. I think that if Brandon had been alive today - allot of things would have been different because I have always felt that he knew what his father stood for and he was truthful and loyal to him in a much different way than what Shannon is showing now. By the way, I do not have bad or negative feeling towards Shannon as a person - I just think that what she is doing is w.r.o.n.g. I also think that Linda has done allot of wrong - first of all she did not mange to unite the students of Bruce with her Nucleus organisation as allot of things behind the scenes where not right (which I cannot go too much into details), but I know her life has NOT been easy loosing her husband first, then her son in such terrible ways. I have huge respect for Linda for what she has gone through.

You guys picked up that Tao LE package? I missed it and it's all sold out on the website.

Short answer Rogerbee: I do not know.

The problem is that we will never know the full true story of how things really was in Bruce's life. Some issues are kept secret as they are too personal, and some are kept for other reasons - some bios are speculations and "personal attacks" - even half lies - (because of personal reasons/agendas of the author), some paint a picture of Bruce being the perfect human being, when we all know Bruce was only human, etc. However there was some plans of releasing Bruce's own diaries and daytimes, but unfortunately that did not happen.

When it comes to "best pictures" it depends on what is your thing and personal references really... Some like rare photos, some like pictures of Bruce doing Wing Chun, some are more interested in photos from one of the movies than other movies, body/muscle pictures, etc.

It is a personal definition of "best" because of your preferences Roger... you have to read or see it before you can decide if it is "the best" or "perfect". Again, even then you would not know....

Thanks for the input, I'll have a look around and see what I can find. In terms of pics I was thinking of film stills and BTS stuff.

Mostly what I've already seen but in one bound volume.

i enjoyed the making of enter the dragon book..a good read
also the GOD special by KFM many many years ago

I agree with you, GungFu. Right now, in Brazil, I am watching the TV series "Bruce Lee- The Legend" and I guess there's a lot of fantasy elements in the story (despite it seems to be a bio). This includes whom had the idea for "The Warrior", which later became "Kung Fu" (starring David Carradine).

After that extraordinary man died, his myth survives stronger and stronger...

Hey Paulo,

Ah yes... "Bruce Lee: The Legend" TV series.....

There are so many errors in that "biography" that I am sorry to say the whole TV series is a complete joke and farce !... The use of wires and totally unrealistic fight scenes where all a real turn off for me, and allot of other Bruce Lee fans have said the same. However, I do think that this TV series was intended for the Chinese audience only - and not meant (at all) for the wider marked outside of China.

Here is some "not so well-known" information about this series: Originally Bruce's siblings where going to be involved in the process and production, but Shannon came in the way - kicked them out of the production and ended up being the "Executive Producer"....

Well thats just teasing :panic::lol

Dan Inosanto still teaches 'JKD Concepts'.
The split is sad but is interesting at the same time. Should JKD be frozen so it is exactly what Bruce Lee did (and Ted Wong was best at determining this) or should it be free to grow and change like Lee intended...which means in 2011 it will probably look little like what Lee was doing.

Personally I think Terri Tom (no.1 student of Ted Wong) is the current heir and she falls in the camp of 'JKD should be frozen in time at 1973'.
If I want modern free fighting I stick to BJJ and MMA.

One of the problems out there is students that didn't train with Lee after he went back to HK, claiming they have the 'real JKD' and just completely ignoring how much Bruce changed it from 71-73.

If you haven't checked out Terri Tom's books on JKD, I highly recommend them. Awesome stuff...Ted Wong actually acts as he punching dummy in the 2nd one, shortly before he passed....so you know she isn't making stuff up!

- but I will not go into details or discussions on that - but I see this partly because of the “branding” commitment Shannon is working on, which might profit for many parts (Dana White [UFC promoter/“boss“], MMA community, Shannon/BLE, Bruce Lee and MMA/UFC fans, etc.). Its interesting to think what Brandon Lee's involvement would be today close to his 50th birthday.
Brandon was pretty rebellious and by his own admission went through long periods of zero training or interest in martial arts. And he was an Inosanto student so he would have come down on the other side of the argument to Linda/Shannon. Doesn't make either right or wrong though.

cheers
SAB

hey guys..haven't posted in a while..anybody got their third head from Guo Bei yet ? ( Beijing Expo Edition )

So, which is the definitive Bruce Lee biography with the best info and the best pics?

The definitive Bruce Lee biography is the revised edition of 'Bruce Lee: Fighting Spirit' by Bruce Thomas. (It is light on pics though if that's most important to you)

There are three editions listed on AmazonUK. The one with yellow writing on the cover and a print date of 18th July 2008 is the one you want. This is the fully revised and expanded version in which he goes over new information that's come to light in the last 10 years.

Not even sure if the revised edition came out in the US....

Specifically he looks at, interviews and at times rebutts Tom Bleecker (ex-husband of Linda Lee) and author of 'Unsettled Matters: The Life and Death of Bruce Lee' - the other book that needs to be read ...though with everything there taken with a grain of salt

No Lee book comes close to the revised Fighting Spirit biography (...or the 1st 90s edition)

Are the two casual hot toys bruce lee & suit (smiling portrait) the same sculpt and paint app? Thanks
