Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Well today I snapped a few pics of a practice Hasbro Luke head that I did. He turned out pretty good, just that the hair is waaaay too glossy looking. I need chalk seriously bad, just to calm it down.... It's not the best work, but I thought I would share my failures as well as my success....:lol

So here it is... There is no gloss on the eyes or lips yet... so expect a rather "dry" look...besides that damn hair!!! :monkey2

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I suggest a clear matte acrylic sealer, like from model Maker, but if you want a quick and dirty solution to glossiness, a thin coat of Elmer's glue does the trick. But you can never get the head wet after that. Not that you should be dowsing custom heads anyway, but there you are.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Today I wanted to try out some new tricks from Mikey and Lin so I picked a figure to overhaul.... Not quite brave enough to repaint Luke or Anakin, but I'm getting there.... :D

So I reached for the one figure that I had always been a little underwhelmed by his paintjob, the one that would probably NOT be in my collection had he not completed the set from that film....

The figure in question.... Regular Ash from Army of Darkness.

It took a while, and I had my ups and downs while painting. Still having a hell of a time with the "wash" method and skin tone. But after riding that rollercoaster, I finally got to a point that I was happy and finished the face.

Tomorrow I will do the eyes and hair, any touch up work that I might have missed... and he will be finished.

At that time I will surely post pictures.... I would have posted some in-work shots.. but my camera battery died. So yeah... :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Well guys... An update to my last post... I was unsatisfied with my old Ash repaint so I started again from scratch. I bought some chalk and charcoal and got to work on his face, even adding a 5 o'clock shadow.

Yeah, yeah.... I know He never really had much of one during the film, but Bruce Campbell always had that sorta "grey" jaw from his abundance of facial hair, even when cleanly shaven. So I wanted to try and tackle that. It worked wonders, and even with my crappy brush I was able to do a decent job on the eyes.... So IMO he looks great now, miles ahead of the original figure! So expect pics soon... I promise!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks Kumar! They are a little dark, but I just took them about 20 minutes ago and it's pretty dark in my apartment... er...my Dungeon!! :devil

I will take some nice pics in the light tomorrow, but I could not wait!! At least the shadows add to the realism for the figure.... Makes it look more EVIL... :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

He looks AWESOME Josh...another damn goo paint job!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Great work on Ash, now he doesn't look like he's 60 years old. Wish I had the balls to repaint mine.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks OM!! Yeah, the old paintjob made him look like a geriatric man with bad constipation issues! :rotfl

At least now he looks YOUNG and constipated.... :D

Yes indeed I will!! I intend on making the entire figure armor and once I am finished, the figure will be shown here on display. After that point I will take pre-orders for the castings to make sure I supply enough, I'll manufacture the costume and paint the armor... and send it to the people. The only thing they will need is the body and boots!

Also, update for everyone.... I got a new camera!!! So expect waaaay better pics! It's a Nikon digital 4 mp... nice.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks man! I hope to take some nice pics in the light tomorrow! he was my first non-caucasian skin tone so I was kinda nervous. And as you can tell I tend to face my fears head on and tackle them first!! :D

I also stained a shirt for Connor so that he could have that "end of the film" look. I'm also gonna get him some gloves too!! His jeans were too light so I darkened them as well....
