Superman looks like he’s had some damage and repair to his costume under his left arm. You can even see a thread pulled out. What’s with that?

Nope. No damage, repair or loose threads at all. Not exactly sure what you're seeing. Maybe it's the way the stand is bunching the suit a bit. He's being suspended off the ground by it in those shots.

He's seeing the triangle/fin shaped pattern on the suit emerging from the belt and shorts.

Ah, that may be it. I know the stitching on the left is different than the right. I'm assuming that's because HT sewed the suit on and that means some exterior stitching.
