I want to make him more articulated and i have started. I have unscrewed all his vital body parts and i have placed joints in his hip area and next will be the arm sockets.
Im useing old 96 year Action man figures for donater body parts.
Shoulder sockets for 3po hips and the same for His shoulders but i may use something different when i come to it. Going to try and use and head and neck post for his head.
Trying to do the most with this figure. Will post more info as and when.

All the best Steve UK.

I have used Action man elbows for the shoulders and the same for the hips and used a chrome pipe out of an old bathroom kit for the neck. I still plan on makeing the elbows move as well so for now here he is.

Wow, I've been lurking for a while waiting for pics, and now there is one...

I think it looks terrible. The joints ruin his overall proportions and are too obvious. I was thinking of cutting my 3PO to pieces and drilling him out inside and putting him on like armor on a Hot Toys body, and I would make pistons for the elbows.

I don't know, I kind of like it in that photo. Mt first impression was "pretty cool". Then again, I have a red Death Star floor, so my credibility may be suspect :lol. Can you post some bigger shots Monkeybat?

Anyone who can transplant elbow for shoulder has my respect. Just swapping Indiana feet to a TT body drove me insane!! Awesome job Monkeybat.

I really liked the floor red, your credibility is intact in my eyes Darth

The Dude before you start busting my Ba*** for my project which no one on this planet seems to have attempted(correct me if im wrong) I was showing you the rushed version , i will paint the joints in gold leaf and sit the head a tad lower and i left the elbow pistons off because i am making the elbows move at a later date. I hope to make the pistons slide up and down the arm when they move. Yes your right i think the arms need to be cust down to cope with the hinges at the shoulder. Please cut me some slack and any advice is welcomed. Cheers Steve UK.

I don't think anyone else has attempted this... if this is a rushed version, I would love to see the final with improvements.... and I wasn't saying anything like "Oh look, his elbows don't even move. What a loser", I was just saying what I would have planned to do if I had decided to attempt something like this. By no means am I saying it's what you should have done.

If you can sink the joints in a little more so they don't make the arms and legs stick out off the body like that, and he still has more articulation than the original, then I think that would be awesome! :D

Thankyou Dude but i dont know if i can sink them any lower may have to chop a bit out of the upper arms to anchor tjhe joint lower. Take a look at Hot toys Robocops hip and they use and ball and socket hip type thingy but the main crotch part is made of rubber and c3p0s is not. Thats were the real c3p0 may have had flexy parts and would allow the real body some give to move. The hips may have to stay as they are and get painted to show less hip. The shoulders and arms can be done a little better. Cheers Steve UK. Any ideas welcome.

Looking good monkeyb, would love to see more pics. Maybe get a photobucket acc then we can see bigger pics.

If you need a hand just ask.

Thats great, that pic made me giggle. Right, now the hip joint has a floating tube inside(anchored to a ball joint at the hip) it so when the leg goes forward or back it slides down the tube. So when it standing still the leg slides back up the tube and you dont see the ball joint and no visible hinge.

I'm currently in the middle of doing the same thing with my Threepio and I must admit it really is testing my patience ( and skills ) to the limit ! This is one of those jobs that initially seems quite straightforward ( just cut and dremel the droid and fit it to a body , simple) but believe me , there's a LOT more to it than that ! I planned on using the joints from a 1/6 figure ( in my case a Marmit ) , but there is just not the space to do this . I've settled on using ball and socket joints from a Lego Bionicle figure ( Not as mad as it sounds , these joints are surprisingly versatile ) and intend to sleeve the joints with either rubber or fabric . Good luck monkeybat , I'll be following this thread with interest and if you don't mind I might add some pics of my own progress , we might be able to help each other out , I KNOW I need a bit of inspiration as I'm at that " Jeez , what have I gotten myself into " stage!
