Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Well I was hoping to have it opening and closing. But now I have made the hatch I can see its gonna be tough. And if I am honest I would rather speed the time on other bits as my head is buzzing with more ideas and potential builds ooowww.

Chris did just ask me if I was gonna do the wings... well... I did.... slippery slope!

DS, that is amazing what your doing. Cant wait for the finished product and the wicked dioramas you'll produce with this beast.

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Ahh cheers my friend. I really appreciate your comment and it gets me more fired up the more folks comment.

I am gonna build a base for it I think, to hid the stand. That could be a hanger floor. It would be great with DarthImpoors rebel transport!!

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Ahh ha well into the shed we go!!!

And out with the mask (not that leather zip up one, but the one that stops me falling over from breathing in fumes!)

And the Shadow X-Wing is born.

I had to give it a jolly good sanding first as I realised the glue that originally used has actually effected the plastic and made it bumpy in places :( we live and learn.

Mark, awesome stuff. Really loving all the pictures. Better not let Debs catch you in the kitchen with your toys mate!! :D

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Well spent most of the day will mini dorgs helping him sort his room then went looking fo a bedside table and was disgusted to find that we could buy one cheaper than I could make one. Then he assembled his first piece of flat pack furniture!! Boys a genius!!

so I started to make the area behind the Arsetromect droid. I had all these great plans of sculpting it and stuff but I realised that it would take days to go off and I wanted to maximize the small amount of time I had... so I scrapped it and made it with wood.. :)

Well Dorgs , if it were me , first I'd make sure that black "pre-shading" was well into all your nooks and crannies . Mix up a very pale grey ( camoflage grey straight from the bottle) and cover each panel individually , leaving the black in the panel lines . This is when you can mix up your varying shades ( including white ) and work from ( or towards) the centre of each panel . I'd be VERY careful with my mixes though , make the variances very slight , as too much difference at this scale could give too much of a " patchwork quilt " effect . Personally , I'd stick to a light, medium and white mix of shades , with a few " primer" panels . I'd even go as far as to blend the whole thing together with a " mist coat " of white . Painting a model at this scale has it's own set of rules as it's getting relatively close to "full size" . ( Not that I've had much experience of painting at this scale , but I am pretty experienced at other scales !) A model at this scale is to be viewed at what is called " stand off distance " , meaning rather than getting in close to the model and scrutinising detail , you "stand off" , or stand back and view the entire model . ( I hope this is making sense !) You've done a fantastic job on the X-Wing Dorgs , but I genuinely envy you the next bit . I'd love to have a crack at a project this size , but I don't currently have the space . ( Most of Thunder Towers is currently taken up with prisoners of war and captured slaves ). Anyhoo , I hope my little tips are of use and good luck .:wink1:

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Cheers ThunderChum. All advice is greatly appreciated and will be acted upon. I may start tomorrow or Monday... I know I may fudge the whole thing up.. but I guess I will just do a respray

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Well here is a quick WIP of the last part for the x-wing, it is not screen accurate but my stuff never is. Still a little work to do on it. also in the background in is Grant McCune or God as I believe he is sometimes called. He was the chief model maker I think and also played a Imperial gunner in ANH.. And check those whiskers out!! I wish I had hair to grow on my head.. and I would aspire to look like him sigh......
