The vampire love story is way better than pointless Snoke and Rey. It literally takes ZERO effort to not give the characters a background after the last film created so many mysteries. People defended the last film because they believed ep.9 had the answers. It didn't. The characters didn't grow...nothing happened. Lazy.

Exactly.. I did not care for TFA but was willing to say that it could be made a better movie if the big picture helped flesh out the characters and answered some questions.. It did not... At first I was willing to ignore that Rey's powers were not explained and, to a lesser extent, that Snoke's background was ignored... But with some time I began to find it very annoying and a huge cheat or just laziness..

I also have a feeling that we will never know how Maz got Luke's saber.. Its destroyed now so that "interesting story for another time" will be ignored also..

These films just seem to fly by the seat of their pants.. I am starting to think that its all improvised :lol

I do: all-female 'Ghostbusters'. And look how that turned out.

And yet it was still a more coherent film than TLJ.

They missed a trick. They should've called it, Star Wars: Ghostbusters. It would have made a bomb, rather than just bombing in the ratings.

Because Star Wars sells.

When I get to the checkout at the supermarket I almost feel the need to buy batteries.

:lol Yep..

It's enough time for Rose to fall in love and die for Finn. :lol

It's hilarious because at the end of TFA, Snoke is like, get Kylo so he can finish his training...and that never happened. It's so strange, because both Kylo and Rey no longer have a master, neither got trained. I guess Rey has those books?

Watching the new Star Wars movies is like playing Mad Libs.. Just fill in the plot holes with whatever noun, verb, or adjective you want to use..

I don't think one's better than the other really.

They both do the same to their respective source materials and fanbase.

I think Chris Hemsworth played a Porg in Ghostbusters.

Seriously though, the all-girl Ghostbusters had the decency to be a reboot. TLJ is meant to be a legitimate continuation of the story.

I forgot about Maz and the lightsaber. She probably bought it on space ebay. It's lazy enough to work for fans. :lol

They wasted Luke... He should've walked onto the salt plains, and not his projection but real life Luke, and brought down 2 of the AT-ATs using the force. That would've been epic, but instead we get the weak and whiney Luke who dies after projecting a hologram of himself. Just awful :(

Here is how I would have done it:

Luke lands on the First Order ship to rescue Rey. Makes his way through countless Stormtroopers without even having to use his lightsaber (as a nod to how Yoda smashed Palpatine's guards against the wall), gets to the throne room, and once he is there, him and Rey have to face all the guards, Kylo, and Snoke. At some point Luke has to die so that Rey can live. There. 100 times better and it took me one minute to lay out the basic plan.
If you still want Snoke to die in the script and Kylo to take over: Snoke got badly injured, Kylo seizes the opportunity. That's actually already been shown (in Legends) when Malgus's master is injured at the end of one of the trailers for SWTOR.

Then the rest of the movie can happen as it did, except you don't get Force illusion Luke wielding a lightsaber that was just destroyed. Plus you get an absolutely mind-blowing fight scene instead of Star Wars Matrix.

At one time, the movies were gospel and the "EU" and all the rest had to work around them. Now it seems that the movies are just there to sell visuals, concepts, characters and places and its the new EU's job to fill in backstories and "bind the galaxy together".

Lucas based his ideas off myths and legends throughout history. Disney is not basing its stories on anything but its broad corporate brand.

:exactly:

It's all about the money. It was always largely about the money, but there was a time when you could feel that these things were special, and care was taken with them.

The EU was coherent, and everything was checked to eliminate contradictions.

Now the films exist purely on a transcendent level of pop culture. Lost in imagery, disconnected from the base (in pseudo post modern terminology).

Anything goes.

For what its worth, RT is holding steady at 56%... just sayin'

Pretty sure this thing will hit 650 million with little effort by next week. Its getting to the 850 million and beyond that I see as more of a struggle than Disney would like.

Regardless of how you feel about the movie, its got to make you sick that in just 2 days Disney is already using the "voter fraud" defense as an excuse just like Roy Moore.

I think it will go past 1 billion easy. Thing is, if it makes anything less than 1.5, Disney is really going to wonder what the **** just happened. This is a main saga film so their expectations are probably more in the 1.7 to 1.8 region.

I agree. I'm going out on a limb and saying this won't quite break a billion. I'm just going for it.

(my gut tells me 1.2 billion to be honest)

The film deserves to tank from here on out. Only then will Kennedy get the boot for allowing this monstrosity to happen.

I would gladly sit through it one more time if it meant it won't get past 1 billion.
Unfortunately that's what's needed for a shakeup to happen. It's not like the MCU where they can more than afford to have one poorly received movie at this point.
This is only the third film (and second main saga film) for Disney Star Wars.

To think that the same people are going to remain in power without questioning their decisions, that would really suck for what's to come. It's not like we get three SW movies a year and it's fine if one is kinda meh, people waited two years for this ****ing sequel that should have been pure epicness and (good) fan service from start to finish.
