Every purchase decision I make in life comes down to one simple principle, is it taking money away from the necessary purchase of a statue, action figure or bluray.

I asked my son, hey want to watch some Predator with dad....

He said...nah, I want to play minecraft on my phone. :gah:

Oh well, I guess it's better that I don't corrupt his mind with some cursing juice heads lol.

Man I am soooo fortunate that there weren't any smartphones and that my parents were working too much that it allowed me to watch everything I wasn't supposed to be watching lol.

The hunt for movies, posters, albums, games and toys in the 70's and 80's was just as thrilling as finding them! It was a big deal to find an unrated Suspiria when I was a kid lol.

Don't get me wrong I love and appreciate that mostly everything is immediately available today, want the unrated collection of a Lucio Fulci movie or a criterion remastered Black Orpheus no problem just hit buy on Amazon while wearing your pajamas.

I feel bad that my son will never get to experience that hunt though to find the one theater far from home that was playing the unrated Day of the Dead or the drive into the seedy parts of lower Manhattan or Hells Kitchen to find that rare one sheet or imported game or movie.

I'll hever forget living near Times Square on my own as an 18 year sharing a room with a very shady broadway writer above a porn studio and roaming NYC with the special effects makeup artist from Troma during the production of their now infamous movies from the 80's.

Ahhhh, some of the movies I watched near or at porncentric Times Square, doh, sorry mom and dad!

So boring being home safe and sound isn't it lol.

Oh well, let me go find some excitement preordering on my Ipad......click....

I totally agree, it's just too easy today. I think the hunting for things was more fun than having that thing you were hunting for. With many collectibles it got pretty consuming. Between EBay, Amazon and Craigslist, if it exists, you can probably find it in 10 minutes.

Nothing like Times Square in the 80's! I, as a kid, especially appreciated the mirrors on the strip club doors, positioned just so....

Remember playing with the cable box to get the "forbidden channels"? My kid won't even turn it off the Disney Channel.

lol

oh yeah the forbidden channels...lol

You know pre internet it really doesn't matter if it's 1925 or 1995 it was all the dark ages, you had to work at finding entertainment.

I'm not saying that I would want to live in 1933, life was mch easier in the 70's and 80's that's for certain.

But the internet changed the world no doubt and there is good and bad like anything else.

I showed my son what I was doing at 18 and he said ewwwwwww lol

My brothers were older and into impressing girls and my sisters were into impressing boys, I was into being a super geek lol.

I think about that a lot. I don't think there has been as massive of a change in technology as the internet. I also believe it has had a mostly negative impact on humanity. It's great for collectors though lol.

lol yeah there's some benefits.

But a wifi sneaker that orders pizza while you walk, no thanks lol.

You know before the internet the government actually had to work hard to spy on us but now...easy peasy.

We let them in now with open arms, they're probably listening and watching thru our "smart" phones and tvs!

Yay technology lol.

It has definitely made the idea of constant surveillance seem normal and okay to our children, which I think is way more important than any actual surveillance going on. Going forward people won't even understand the concept of privacy. Facebook is f'n terrible imo.

I've got lazy in my old age so yes ordering stuff online is very convenient, thank you UPS!

But what freaks me out is how all of my purchases and surfing habits pop up every where I go now.

At this point, I've learned not to give a ****. Congratulations, random NSA dude, I hope you discovered some new porn.:lol

I stay away from all online porn because it's all harmless fun UNTIL it isn't, until someone with power for whatever reason decides that you are now trafficking in child porn even though you are not.

Good luck with your family life, career, finances, your kids at school and legal fees trying to shake that one off, instant guilt regardless if it wasn't true.

What's that song again that can be heard in the NSA hallways.....oh that's right...."I've got the power!" lol

But yeah how about that Moana bluray. :lol
