No clue who that is even with the pics.

I saw it on Sunday in 3D IMax.
One hell of a good time! Fun and enjoyable but not very thought provoking. I liked the emotional parts, not too heavy but enough to make this more than just a comedic action adventure. I wish Kirk and Spock had shown a stronger friendship in this, they seemed more distant than their prime counterparts. The villain isn't terrible, his motivation is a bit like Khan from WOK, but Krall doesn't have the same presence, Krall is just adequate. Everybody has some screen time and something to do, I didn't feel like they wasted anyone in the cast. Jaylah was a fun new character, I wouldn't mind her joining the cast in future movies. I also liked how they did the alien planet, especially the flora and fauna, not too over the top like avatar but just enough to make it seem like it wasn't Earth. And I loved Yorktown Starbase! They have to bring it back if only briefly next time!
I'd say this is tied with 2009 Star Trek, perhaps a little bit better imo. I liked it more than SW: The Force Awakens though.
The 3D is pretty good. There are a few sequences that can be a little dizzying and a few others that are too blurry and confusing (camera was too close and moving too much for 3D) but it overall worked in 3D.

Definitely go out and see this if you can!

Spoiler Spoiler:

I plan on seeing this again in 2D just to see if I missed anything, but those saying that it was too dark in spots, I honestly didn't see that so I'm wondering if it's just your theater.

As for what's in your spoiler....

btw......did any of you who have seen this hear.....

Spoiler Spoiler:

The film didn't seem too dark to me, it's just that some of the action was filmed too close to the camera and edited too fast so you can't focus on what's going on. I'm looking forward to seeing this again too but I'll wait for the Blu Ray. Along with a med. bag of popcorn and two bottled waters this movie cost me $47 at the theater for two, a lot more than I'd like to spend. At least this time there was no projection screw ups, bad sound, or annoying people and kids to ruin the experience. It happens all too often for me.

Oh my, that's quite a bit, but then it I have no IMAX theater around me. My ticket for Thursday was $11 (3D), that's because on preview nights they charge weekend night prices plus the 3D surcharge. I usually go on Tuesday, which I can get a ticket for $5. I buy the refillable bucket and drink cup every year to save money, and I also join the free rewards club which gets me coupons. My ticket, popcorn and large drink cost me $16. On average it will cost me, ticket plus food around $10.

Anyway....I can't remember.....

Spoiler Spoiler:

Think they're old college buddies or something.

He's the Steve Ballmer of the Star Wars and Star Trek universes, and I find his presence even more annoying than that of Simon Pegg.

Spoiler Spoiler:

It was $15 per ticket for Imax 3D. Usually I go to the matinee showing which is cheaper, but I had a busy evening and morning and didn't get around to checking show times until it was too late, so I had to go to a later showing. I also don't buy food at the show knowing how ridiculous it is; I can buy a 40 pack of 16.9oz bottled water at Costco for the same price ($3) I paid for one 16.9oz Dasani at the theater. Also, a 44 pack of Microwave popcorn is just $3 more at Costco and each pack is the same size as the theater's medium popcorn. But I wanted the full experience at the theater and was craving popcorn. I had to see the new Trek film opening weekend! But I enjoyed myself so, worth it.
I've thought about getting on the theater's rewards program, but I maybe watch 2-4 movies at the theater per year.

I don't mind either one, but Pegg seemed really skinny in this.

Well...Star Trek Beyond is pretty badass. It's not perfect. It's a tad slower than the two previous films but it's much better written and the actors are more invested in their characters. In particular, Kirk finally feels like the Kirk from the original series and not just a "fun" character. At first Idris Elba's villain wasn't my cup of tea, he felt evil just for evil's sake...but then when they finally reveal his backstory, it all makes sense. The action(especially the first action set piece when the enterprise is under attack) are phenomenal. Again, I can't overstate the magic of that first action sequence. It is amazing. For the duration of that scene, it flew past Civil War for me. It came down eventually but even then I was very happy with what I saw. I absolutely can't wait to see a 4th film with Justin Lin at the helm and Simon Pegg co-writing it again. This film really is the original series...stretched out to 2 hours with an 150 million plus budget. Sofia Boutella is a wonderful addition to the cast and left an much bigger impression than Alice Eve did in "Into Darkness". My only regret is that we've seen the last of Anton Yelchin's Chekov who gets his biggest role to date in the series. It sucks that he's gone but he did a wonderful job here.

I am concerned that regular audiences won't dig this as much. It takes it's time more than the last 2 films but it's really a better film for doing so. I'm really torn on if I like this better than Abrams first Trek though. It's neck and neck but this maybe technically a better film.

6.8/10

No one will like this BUT.

I thought its the worse of the new films......but still better than 80% of whats done today.

Some non-spoiler comments:

The GOOD:
Its a beautiful movie. Lots of color and detail , which adds depth to the universe.
The acting is decent, but not as good as I had hoped. The best performance comes from our newest characters.
The story is good, yet predictable.
Its Star Trek.....
Great Score as usual.
Some touching tributes....

The BAD:

I do not like LIN as a director. It seemed like he was spinning the camera the whole time. I get he is trying to give the feeling of being in space, but mostly it was nausea inducing...and WAY over played. You think Abraham "lens flares" were gratuitous......try finding a stable shot in this film....

Way to many over the top action shots, that are also poorly shot. The fights and gun play is shot so fast and zoomed you really can't see whats going on at all....lots of flash and boom....but really whats the point if you just see flash and boom.

I didn't feel they added anything to the original characters at all......they basically wanna quit SF and move on......and then don't, cause I got in an exciting battle. The relationships in between the characters didn't progress at all.

My poor wife got a tad nauseated from the spinning filming sequences, and there were a lot of them. We both enjoyed the movie otherwise. Can't wait for IV
