Iron Giant Figure by Mondo

Thanks for the review, this is very sad indeed. I wanted to support Mondo, I know Iron Giant isn't a huge property and I appreciate their passion for the subject. I bought their bolt and it is very nice. I preordered the Giant from them within moments of it going live, I didn't get the EX because of their faulty ordering system. The next day they started becoming available for preorder at Sideshow and others where I could have paid when it came in stock and received rewards etc. Then a minimum of communication for the past year and now their affiliates have had stock and shipped them already. I recieved a tracking number last week and that is it, it is still sitting in preshipping. Mondo has lost a customer for good with me. I'm not a whiny Fanboy but I expect premium service with premium prices and they have failed at every turn. Hearing now that the product is also coming up short is the final disappointment.

Thanks for the review and thoughts Jessedart.

I did not have any of the issues you have but I understand how you feel. Like with the earlier True Type bodies from Hot Toys with breaking knees.

I would contact customer service right away to get a replacement or refund.

The build is cheap but I have know idea what they had to pay to get the digital files to make a figure this accurate.

It is definitely a display only kind of fig.

This is the only thing from Mondo that caught my eye from their product line up. Hopefully by the time they make something else that draws my attention their build quality and standards would have risen.

Sorry to hear you have so many problem with your iron giant. I received mine yesterday. While I don't think he is worth the MSRP, I have zero problems. Everything works and works well. Hope you can get your problems resolved with Mondo. Good luck.

I am getting one and I even cringed at the price. But then I am like, eff it... I love the Iron Giant. It's my all-time favourite animated film. And I always wanted a good representation of the character. Like the Rocketeer, doubt i ever make my money back on it, but then again I will never sell that PF. Even have the Medicom 1/6th scale figure of it. When you love a character enough, the price isn't a big deal. I spent way more on things I didn't like as much... So hopefully my guy comes to me with zero problems. Jessedart, I know how it feels to be jipped. I felt that way when I paid 350 dollars for that crummy DC Direct Superman PF. *still shudders when he looks at it*

Still waiting for mine. It's okay, don't mind the waiting, but all these reviews... I'm kinda scared now. That he will be lightweight and easy t break. I'm pretty tough on my figures. I like posing them and I dont keep them locked up. Well, I'll see when I get it. The biggest problem I have had so far is with the TERRIBLE costumer service. I wrote them like three times and they never got back to me. I wrote STAR ACE one time and got a long mail back. THAT is costumer service. Mondo has some pretty sweet product, but they also act like they're too cool to care. And we are nerds. We have been treated like that most of our lives. We don't need that from the companies we give money.

No amount of reviews/pics is going to matter. The only way you'll know if you are happy with the product is having it in-hand and find out if you really like it or not.

I finally opened mine and like it. It's not worth $300 but it's pretty damn cool. I like the extra accessories to have the option to display him regular or battle-mode. Feels fragile so take extra care posing him. My wife lets her niece and nephew play with her Trendmaster version because it's heavy duty, but this one is staying on a high shelf. Sound is meh but I'm not going to use it anyway.

I would have preferred no electrics, no alternate head and 'war' parts. Might have saved us $100.

Mine is in transit on its way to the UK, dreading how much I will have to pay in taxes when it gets to the border.

My thoughts...

I am in awe of reading all these messages.... "Not as durable as the Trendmaster!", "It's not worth the money!", and "The original Trendmaster version went for a lot less." Yeah, but that was also nearly 20 years ago. One word guys... inflation! This isn't then. This is now. As an example, a SideShow Darth Maul v 1.0 went for 50 bucks. The latest installment goes for 250. Again, inflation. My understanding is that this is more limited. And one was sold as a toy. The other a collectible. I get it, they are both technically toys... but seriously, who's paying 300 fish bones to get this for a kid? This is for the adult kid in us. And I can't speak for you guys, but for me, it poses quite well, stands on its own with no issue. Holds its accessories well, and the electronics work. So as a toy, it does what it was made to do.

This is far superior in terms of accuracy and accessories. It also takes from 3D scans from the movie. So you're getting the real McCoy in the real 3D world, in terms of aesthetics.

I also hear the disappointment there is no die-cast. Mondo never claimed it had die-cast parts. It's not a toy. It's a collectible. It never sold itself as something it wasn't. What we see in the photos is what we got. A hunk of plastic that resembled the Iron Giant character. My HT Delorean is not a toy. I don't pay 700 US into something before taxes and duties to play with. It's there as a display piece. I'm also not a kid. Now it's not to say one can't be creative and play with their toys. To each their own.

I knew from Day 1 what I was getting myself into, so there were no surprises for me.

Is it worth the 300? If you're a huge Iron Giant fan, then absolutely yes, it is! If you're just a casual fan, then no it's not. Is anything we buy on this forum really worth what we pay? More often than not, they aren't. Most of them are mass produced. Even if it's limited... it's not to the point where it's 1 of 1 or even 20 of 20. We're talking into the hundreds and sometimes into the thousands.

It was always a 150 dollar toy and/or collectible (whatever you want to call it), but I knew I couldn't get this representation at that price, so I went with it. I knew once in hand, I would be like, this is sweet, but it isn't 300 sweet. But as a collector of the medium and the character/film, I simply had to have it.

Again, if you're not a big fan, stay away. It's not going to be something you want or need. I don't even need it, but I do want it and I am glad I got it.

I will add that companies may have stretched the markup.... but this goes across the board. This is not a cheap hobby, and it's only going to get more expensive. I am not saying it's right or am I trying to defend it. Simply stating the reality. It comes up a lot, so I feel it needs to be addressed. I know people who have quit the hobby and sold off their stuff, because they grew tired of the escalating prices and in a lot of cases, the quality of pieces along with the customer service, not being at the level to meet their price demands.

I agree Eli26. This is an expensive hobby. I also do a lot of research before I buy and sometimes you get a stinky curve ball like the 3A Master Chief when you believe it might sell out before it gets an in hand review. Sometimes you take chances with items and new companies but that's like any other hobby. You take chances and sometimes it works out and sometimes it does not. I have made it a point to only buy items that interest me so if ends up a lemon I don't have to whine about it. It will still be awesome in my eyes. 3A Master Chief was a stinky curve ball that looks awesome in my display and everyone that sees it wants one.

Go figure.

These are the figures on my list for this year so far. Good or bad I will be happy with them.

I agree with most of your opinion but I feel they should of used sturdier plastic. I really like the fact that it is the most accurate figure to date but the build quality is not that great. My whole point is durability in the figure and they did not succeed in that. The most fragile areas are the finger joints. They can break off easily. They could have focused on the plastic durability for an articulated figure such as this.

For me, the fingers don't feel cheap or fragile. I suppose I got a good one. Could it have been better? Absolutely! There is always room for improvement, no matter what we collect... but I gotta say I do love this guy!

Having said that, it would have been nice if it were heavier and felt like 300 smackers. I still see this guy being a 150-200 range piece... but it was pay this price, or don't have him at all. So I chose the latter.

Also from Mondo. I got a shipping notification last week, and it arrived yesterday. Very speedy.

Might be worth chasing them if you haven't heard yet, although I got the EX so maybe that batch was sent first.

Overall I really like the figure, it looks great and the joints are all ok on mine. The voice feature is a bit of a waste of time, sounds very garbled.

I do share concerns about the type of plastic used, and how it will scratch/wear with knocks over time. I'm planning to get my shelving set up and just sit it down there and never touch it again!

As a side note, will anyone be picking up the collectors edition Blu-Ray in September?
