The bottom shelf shouldn't be a problem since it's the wood base.
Also if anyone is on the hunt there is one on eBay now for about $560. I'd bite but car troubles = no funds right now.

It will be close to 50" now since it has now turned into a triple detolf mod.
In that case, I'd probably say skip that mod and do something else instead, like get a Pax, some sliding door rails and some glass custom-cut to fit.

That seller is using the global shipping program which is best avoided if possible. If the seller packs "too good", they will remove most of the packaging and since they also take the customs money up front, there is at least a $300 surcharge on the auction price.
The Pax is not approved by my gf. It has to be mainly glass and modding the detolf it by far the cheapest option I have in that regard.

OK. Anyway, the Detolf shelves will have no problem supporting the Dewback. The Dewback's base is at least as large as the space between the metal rails, so the glass shelves (which are plenty strong anyway) won't in fact be supporting much mass at all themselves as it's transferred to the metal rails.

Also I just realised that I have been under the impression that the detolfs only have 3 shelves, not 4 (counting the base if course). Even more space!

Really want one of these but can't find one anywhere except for that one on eBay but import fee's & shipping will kill that deal straight away unfortunately for me
I am genuinely interested to know if that change in the packaging has happened to anyone else, except the guy venting in that notorious YouTube video.
I have bought a bunch of stuff using the global shipping program and never experienced the 'removed packaging'.. imho, it's an urban myth.. I think the the guy in the video was either stiffed by the original shipper, or the package got trashed in transit.

There's a solution to any of these issues. "Item Significantly not as Described" - then you get your money back and keep the item. Seller gets screwed. It doesn't pay to try and screw buyers and I've never heard of the pre-paid "global shipping" having anything to do with removing any of the original packaging.

I simply won't buy anything where the seller uses GSP. Way too expensive.

Good choice. Global Shipping Program only causes issues for buyers (and sellers ultimately). GSP repacks your carefully packed items to save on shipping costs. Here is some info about their "quality" services:

That's a lot of reports of USER ERROR and MISINFORMATION. I'm not saying that GSP is for everyone nor that it's the best solution for anyone, but almost the entirety of what's written about it is incorrect from people who don't know the slightest bit about it or customs clearance procedures. GSP was created because of that lack of knowledge and to remove the surprises many buyers face when dealing with sellers from other countries along with the friction associated with and preventing many sellers from selling internationally in the first place - most US-based sellers will not ship internationally at all.

I don't buy it either. I occasionally sell and have always tried to charge actual shipping to help international buyers out. A real problem is that tracking a package once it leaves the US is nearly impossible and I have had multiple things go "missing". Although I understand it ends up costing the buyer a premium if I use GSP, I have NEVER had a package go missing using it. My advice is for the buyer to just not bid if they do not not like GSP. I have been asked more than once to cancel the auction and not use GSP, but I can't risk it anymore.

1. If GSP will tax me when I buy an item on ebay, I will be AGAIN taxed by our customs officers. I asked, and they said there is NO international relation between my country/government/finances ministry etc. and GSP and their tax collecting.
2. The shipping and all other taxes are bigger if ordered through GSP, and I don't mean circumventing value on packages or avoiding taxes.
3. I really don't want anyone to mess with a package which was factory sealed or at least carefully packed by a seller, just to save up a few bucks in shipping costs or to verify there if there is no bomb or who knows what inside - verify that before the original seller packs and ships it.
As an international customer I never buy through GSP. And I also prefer to buy from people I know and trust. Most of my collection is bought international.

They do alter packaging for the worse. I have seen several examples on arcade forums. For apparent reasons when you send a (often) heavy pcb with several layers you go all out on packaging. At least if you have any sense whatsoever. But I have seen several cases where the bubblewrap is removed or replaced from carefully taped up red bubble wrap (which is supposed to work against ESD) to regular old bubble wrap that makes your arm hair stand up from a meter away.
I have ordered once with GSP and that package was also very flimsy. I thought it odd since I ordered from a seller that specializes in collectibles so they should now how to pack things. I never complained about it at the time since it was a Marmit figure and the stuff inside the box was all I cared for. Then I started to read up on GSP and all of a sudden it seemed logical. I don't have any proof of how my particular case played out of course, could still have been a very sloppy seller. But the issue is real.

The customs brokering will be done by the carrier - every carrier operating in any country with international shipments deals with that country's customs office(s). You won't be double taxed, and if for any reason you were, you'd be owed a (partial) refund.
It's just a freight-forwarding service with tax/duty pre-payment - FOR SUPPORTED DESTINATIONS ONLY. UPS and FedEx (and many fulfillment specialty outfits) offer the same service(s).
