Did you hear this direct from Star? That's not been my experience. With any type of license I've been around or had, be that Sole exclusive, or limited non-exclusive, or co-exclusive, or non-exclusive or any of the others... I wouldn't pay for a license without understanding the market and any direct competition. If ten companies are making the exact same figure no one, or only one, will make it work. Not if they are all same region(no region). I don't know anyone at star and I don't know the brand manager for the 300 license so I'm just speculating, obviously. But I'm basing it on my own experience in the same areas with other companies. I'm just curious.
You said they wouldn't allow photos becuase it was pending..that's strange. The diligence and regs on a non-exclusive license are usually pretty light, and allow prototypes to be shown at trades. Even on sole exclusive license they usually allow prototypes to be shown. I'm curious about how the agreement is done and how the brand manager for 300 handles things. Everything I've heard about this property is at odds with most the stuff. Strange.
