Here's my full review of the new Captain Rex. Overall, another nice clone trooper from Sideshow, with perhaps their best head sculpt to date.

Can anyone remind me what that little extra black fabric collar piece around the neck is for? Are you supposed to only use it with the head sculpt, or only with helmet, or both?

Just to add on in my two cents, the smaller hole for the head sculpt makes it a pain to put it on... Clearly there's was a bigger hole planned as evidenced by the residing ring around the hole. Because of it, I've yet to successfully put it on out of fear of breaking the body. Wolffe slides on Rex's body just fine, but Rex's head is awful.

I wonder if Sideshow will replace/revise in any later production models. I also had to note that his eyes seem to be defaulted to stare upwards towards the sky instead of directly ahead like Wolffe. Not a big fan of that either.

Yep, the hole is definitely smaller. I compared it against the other head sculpts in my review and it is quite a bit smaller. I also had trouble putting on the sculpt, and you do need to be careful where you hold it and press when doing it. I push it down with my right hand while my left hand essentially holds and pushes in the opposite direction right at the base of his crotch where there is no armour. I press up against the body itself cos I was worried I would snap or crack the armour.

Overall, I think the Commander Wolffe release was better. Two helmets, two headsculpts, and essentially the same figure with different paint app. Wolffe wins bang for buck over Rex Ph2 I think.

Exactly. It only comes with figures that have headsculpts.

Wolffe is definitely kitted out better but he's really not much more than a walk-on walk-off character.
Rex had more story and was essentially Vader's right hand man Just wish we knew his ultimate fate.

What's with the Captain ranking? Is Commander a higher ranking, and if so, didnt Rex ever reach that rank?

So here's the real question. Do I get phase 1 Fives and Echo for less than $200 or spend almost double to get the Arc Trooper versions.

Even though the Phase II versions look awesome, there is something appealing about having fives and echo look like subordinates to Red. With the arc trooper armor they would look to similar and Red wouldn't stand out as captain.

Even though the Phase II versions look awesome, there is something appealing about having fives and echo look like subordinates to Red. With the arc trooper armor they would look to similar and Red wouldn't stand out as captain.

I really like my Echo and Fives and they fit in well for a varied 501st squad. You could wait and see if you can get them cheaper. They had them for minimum 30% off with up to triple rewards during spook.

No Rex for me until tomorrow. The Fed Ex driver had already left the depot before Rex arrived. Oh well...there's always tomorrow.

Yes, Commander is a higher rank but there was never anything shown that Rex went any higher than Captain. He seemed like a guy who would turn down a Commander promotion just to stay leading troops into battle though. I always imagined him going down in a blaze of glory, actually. A fitting end to one of the biggest war heroes of the Clone Wars.
