“Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy,” the hackers said in a message sent to Sony brass, CNN reported Friday.

nothing really new about it,

:lol Whatever lies you need to tell yourself to sleep at night. Reminds me of what you guys were bitching about yesterday in the Gentlemann's club. :lol

It affected only Sony.

Now it's affecting privately owned theaters, other production companies, youtube, piratebay, ebay, bit torrent, streaming sites, and news agencies.

they are still f- with the release of the movie, i don't get your point, isn't it obvious that they would want the movie to be shelved forever? duh :duh

No not duh. Why don't you actually learn about what you're arguing over.

The original demand was no theatrical release. Nothing about dvds or on demand. Nothing about destroying all the posters, deleting all the trailers and commercials and previews.

Now they see they'll do what they want so they want more.

Now it's affecting privately owned theaters (Alamo), other production companies (Paramount), other artists (Steve Correl/Gore Verbinski's new movie canned) https://deadline.com/2014/12/north-...steve-carell-canceled-new-regency-1201328532/, youtube (trailers), piratebay(leaks), ebay(posters), bit torrent(leaks), streaming sites(leaks or official release on Netflix), and news agencies(hosting content).

Sorry, but your ignorance is dangerously stupid. I saw plenty of appeasement after 9-11 and all of it was bad and at the cost of freedoms and rights. This is already being used by politicians as a reason we need more NSA oversight on the internet and more monitoring.

so I'm ignorant because their "new and extravagant" demands don't surprise me at all? (im not sure how that makes sense but whatever)
after all this talk about people begging Sony to leak it? you didn't think they would ask not to leak it? aren't you just being overly dramatic about these "extreme" new demands?
are you seriously telling me this is so surprising to you? when I first saw your post about the "new" demands I expected them to be asking for 1 million dollars or something ....

What do you mean surprised? I said this would happen. That's the point. You're defending Sony's actions and I'm saying this is exactly what it's going to cause more of.

I just thought the new demands were going to be more radical, I guess I just count the newer demands still part of the original demand of not releasing the movie. Asking Sony not to leak it is still telling them not to release it to the public, which is what they want.

maybe new demands will come later but maybe they won't.

Riveting, the last several minutes is particularly chilling. The regime's policies have left a good portion of the population with vision problems. A Nepali eye surgeon visits for humanitarian reasons and tries to restore the vision of 1,000 North Koreans.

Once their vision is restored, they praise the Supreme Leader without fail. The last guy pledges to take up arms against Americans. Ugh.

I've only just picked up parts of this thread on my phone, but some people here are defending this kind of self-censorship? Wow...

I was really curious about how much the movie was going to show about how people live there.

Vice has done some really good specials on NK as well, and what is like to actually visit. Going there as a tourist is very bizarre too:

no one is really "Defending" anything (sounds weird when you put it like that, like supporting them or something) ,
I personally wouldn't want anyone getting hurt over a dumb comedy, specially on Christmas day. it wouldn't be worth even a single person getting hurt.
I just don't get the "Sony hate" for doing it, how many singers or bands cancel concerts because of threats? how many speakers or even comedians cancel their appearances? I never heard people bashing those performers for being scared of threats.
the Sony hate is kind of weird. everyone is making fun of Sony but if for example this happened to be Lady Gaga or Beyonce canceling a tour over threats no one in the mediawould be saying a single thing against them lol.
leave sony alone :lol we should instead hate them because of spiderman :rotfl

How can you speculate on the public response to what Lady Gaga or Beyonce cancelling a tour might be? I'm not across the details yet - I'm interested in getting up to speed. But on the face of it, your position sounds disingenuous. North Korea gets to dictate what entertainment is delivered in the US, or anywhere else? Or they'll whack others with a stick? In my current ignorance, Sony's position looks a lot like appeasement.
