As far as R2 and 3PO popularity, it's always been pretty obvious that R2 is more popular over the past 30+ years. Do I have polls to back that up? No. But one only needs to look at the relative amount of product released bearing each likeness to tell where the marketroids lean. If you've collected product for a long time you may have noticed slower (peg-warmer) sell-through of 3PO figures. If you spend any time around kids you may find they associate much more with the shorter and more child-like R2 - this was the case 30 years ago with people I knew and is the case today with kids I know.

Given also R2's more complex accessory options and working hidden compartments, I think it would have made a great first impression.
Among the younger demographic specifically - sure.

I'm speaking broadly - I reckon they'd be about even. :)

C-3PO has always been my fave. Something about that clipped elocution and risk-averse stick up his arse resonates with me.

Got my colored gels from UPS late last night. Going to try and fix the eyes while watching England vs. Scotland after work today.

I'm pretty sure I'll have some left over if anyone needs some. Shoot me a PM.

Everyone is young at some point, and I don't think once you settle on your favorite SW characters that you ever change your mind. ;)

That said, there still appears to be loads of 3PO available, so I'm content in my waiting game.

Any chance someone owns both PM C-3P0 and the Medicom TC-14...I would love to see a comparison of the two together.

......and a shiny gold robot just faded into the background?:monkey1

Anyway, pointless argument. I'd say the R2 figure is all the way back at drawing board stage, the scale compared to the Threepio figure needs to be fixed. I won't buy R2 if they don't change it.

Threepio is an amazing figure and the R2 figure has to be given the same care.

I spent 15 minutes and completed the Eye mod! Here is a before and after. The soft golden amber gel makes a world of difference.

Now that I have done the mod I will hardly ever turn it on again :lol

Amazing figure, only issue with it that I could find was a scratch on his right leg. Can be seen in the photo, not visible from my normal viewing distance and it doesn't bother me so much. Bought mine months ago from Hong Kong via ebay. Got it really cheap as well and didn't have to pay import taxes. :yess: So I didn't want to return it just because of a tiny scratch. But if someone has a spare leg.. I'm interested! :)

Such an amazing figure! Can't wait for the R2 to be released so I can trash my "USB hub" stand-in that I'm using at the moment!
