Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Right Shoulder Pad

Pants should be done by end of this weekend. Boots too. Heads will take roughly a week to do. Patience.

Added zipper pulls to the jacket and the vest.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Right Shoulder Pad

Oh man. I just finished Dredd's motor cycle pants. It looks awesome. I've realized that the key to getting Dredd's look right is to NOT make the close tight fitting. Not too loose, but not tight either. The key word to his look is functionality. He's not supposed to look like a comic book hero - more like SWAT. Tactical functionality.

I'll post some pics once I get his boots and knee pads done.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Right Shoulder Pad

Last night I made some refinements to Dredd's gauntlets. I basically merged them with the bottom flap unit that helps to hold the elbow pads in place. So you get this nice tapered look like on the real suit. Before - the two separate units fought each other. Especially at the back where the elbow pads pushed them together.

Combining them allowed me to make that back area much more tidy and exactly like the movie look. I also lined the two square flaps that cover the back of the elbows so they look more substantial.

Also notice that I'm thinned down the bottom pad of the left shoulder pieces. It was a little to rounded on the surface.

You guys have probably noticed this already, but I was watching the blu-ray last night and noticed that Dredd's suit is different depending on the scene. This is the most evident during the scene when Dredd is running away from the gattling gunfire. His suit in that sequence has shoulder pads that are much more reduced in size. Same with the tactical vest. Most likely just foam casts of the prop pieces to allow for running and falling etc.

For close-up shots - Dredd has on a more detailed suit with more thick and solid looking shoulder pads and tactical vest. This is the version I'm focusing on with this Dredd figure.

You also notice that Dredd's suit that is worn by his stunt double in the fight with Judge Chan is also different. The belt on the back is supported by an extension of the back of the tactical vest - similar to what I have on my Dredd. I prefer this look. Outside of this scene - the belt is held up by just to belt loops suspended from the bottom of the back of the vest. Probably because this fight scene is the most physical scene in the movie and I imagine the normal suit would get torn to shreds.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Right Shoulder Pad

Just finished Dredd's moto pants. Just like the jacket - I made it from scratch using leather and suede. Note the combination of the suede accents on the inner thigh. I still have to make final knee pads. Those shown are actually copies of the elbow pads.

The suede and leather combo will look nice once I weather the suit.

Up next - the boots. And I can't wait to get rid of that crappy dragon head!

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Dredd finally gets pants!

Here are some close-up shots of the front of the pants. I designed it very similar to the real suit. The knee pads tuck into those flaps around the knees. This gives Dredd a really distinct profile that is completely different if you just glue on the knee pads - or strap them on. The boots are another key visual element that a lot of custom Dredds gloss over. They're actually a size bigger than Urban's actual shoe size. And they're not just normal boots.

I don't want to take pics of the back of the pants until I have the boots done. The back is pretty boring without the boots.

Wow....insane tailoring Tin!

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Dredd finally gets pants!

Thanks guys! :hi5: I really like how they came out. The pant legs on the back actually have these too flaps that on the real suit are used to wrap the hem up to tuck into the boots. They visually give the boots the illusion of being taller than they are. I made the flaps, but won't install them until the boots are done. That's why the back of the pants looks kind of plain compared to the front.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Dredd finally gets pants!

Man. I really hate that Dragon head now. Can't wait to make the Urban head. The Dragon head looks fat - and has no neck. My Urban HS will have appropriately tall neck that Urban has. I sticks up above the collar unit a great deal.

Can't wait to see this in its final glory

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Dredd finally gets pants!

Amazing! Very inspirational. The de-construction and construction of the outfit is very cool.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Dredd finally gets pants!

Those pants... I can't even begin to understand how you accomplished those :huh

Do the motorcycle pants restrict articulation much? Was thinking that if they do, then instead of the suede accent, using a stretch fabric may be better (as the original pants were likely made with)
