Hey guys we just did a review of this at Rebelscum. IT. IS. AMAZING! The only two things I could nit-pick about it would be the comlink isn't the proper color and the hips have a limited range of motion--you know in case we ever get that Landspeeder Sideshow teased us with a few years ago. Besides that, it really is perfect. I recorded some shots of the figure on a scale and among some of Sideshow's and Hot Toys' Star Wars figures so you get a sense of how much this thing weighs and how great it fits in with your existing collection (it's no mini-Medicom).

But, l gotta say, this thing is a damn fine piece. As you can tell in my photos, it almost falls into a whole different category of 1/6 scale figure. You can see and feel where the extra cost to produce this thing went. However, whether it's worth the cost of a couple Hot Toys figures or two-and-a-half other Sideshow figures is open for debate. I personally don't regret picking this guy up one bit. But it almost overkills in quality.

I feel like the question of price is relative, especially with the rising cost of HT and SSC figures. I mean, a pretty basic Wolverine with a light-up plastic stand is running $220. The new Tony Stark with a few extra pieces is $280, E-Web canon is $150 and you'll also need a $150 Snowtrooper for it to look right, Not that any of those is a bad purchase, just increasingly expensive. This 3PO is seriously like a museum quality piece with sleek lines like a race car. There are only a couple SW characters (that people care enough about) that would lend themselves to the die-cast treatment: 3PO and R2 (well, Grievous would look sick, but he'd probably cost over $1000), so it's not like you're committing to a whole new line - this is something special. IG-88 really was a wonder of engineering and a home-run for SSC, but if you hold that figure in one hand, and 3PO in the other, I guarantee you'll notice the difference in production quality.

BTW, did we ever sort out SSC's involvement in this piece? I mean, Sideshow isn't just listed with the property license holders and developers on the back of the box, it's logo is embossed on either side of the box in the same silvery lettering as the name of the product. Very intriguing.

edit: Nevermind, just watched the Rebelscum review for the answer to that question...

I should be getting a bonus this Friday. I just might be able to swing this.
Glad it looks like it's going to work out, Boba Ben. Like you, I picked-up Iron Monger and this and it's pretty much blown my budget for the next little while. Happy with the purchases, though -- they're both 'figures of the year' in my world.

anyone know what the ETA is for sideshow shipping these? I'm really kicking myself for not ordering with amiami months ago

LOTR stuff is quite new. Some Star Wars sets, like Cloud City, Mos Eisley Cantina and others can go for many times what they sold for years ago, but those are special cases.

I never looked after my old sets, they all lie mixed together in a storage box known as Lego hell. My son will inherit said frustrating box next year.
:lol

On a side note, who's wiping the oil off their 3PO's and who's not?
I'm not.

That's an excellent question. Anyone know if the oil helps to protect the finish, and most importantly anyone know what type of oil may have been used? It's bound to wear off at some point.
