Hello freaks, my current TV is a hot mess and rather than repair it WalMart is just going to send me a replacement. As the TV was not so great to begin with they have offered 2 mid-level choices for replacement:

46" Toshiba 46RV525R
46" Sanyo DP46849

I've tried looking for information/reviews online... but haven't had much luck. Anyone here have either, or have knowledge as to who is generally a better company to go with?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :duff

Toshiba. Never had problems with my last two Toshibas. Cat killed one, and I am still using the other for 10+ years. They are a good reliable company and my buddy has an LCD and loves his. Go with the Toshiba.

I can't say much for Sanyo, but I just got rid of a Toshiba I had for over 15 years. I had to replace it because every now and then when I turned it all, the screen would be scrunched down into a .25 inch horizontal line. Other than that, I never had any problems.

Toshibas are built like brick houses, much like the material that gal's brain is made of, so he should be all for the Toshiba. J/K Gal! :peace

Look into SAMSUNG ELITE SERIES.... Awesome televisions! Look great in HD and Blu Ray. Also, look into getting your new television calibrated... Increases the picutre 10 times!

Another one of these threads. Can we streamline them into one thread???

Boo hoo... at least I'm not asking people which statue I like better :lol And I realize its a redundant thread, but I don't have a lot of time to decide and figured this would be the quickest route.

Thanks for the feedback so far, any other thoughts?

Between those I would get the toshiba.

But I would recommend getting a Panasonic plasma at least 50".

The Toshiba gets higher ratings on several sites. I would go with that one of the two.

Thanks everyone!!! Sounds like Toshiba is getting the nod... guess that's the one.

I would love to be more flexible with what model, but since I am only given 2 options for replacement I don't get to be choosey :lol

Yeah, Sanyo doesn't sound too good. But, I really didn't know much about either... I did a lot of research before buying my TV 2 1/2 years ago; fat lot of good it did me though :lol

so you had a warranty and I guess Walmart doesn't carry your model anymore? I guess its good you had that warranty. i just bought a tv and decided against my instinct and got the warranty.

Yeah, I got a 3 year from them for around $80... they were going to have to replace the panel and evidently decided it was more cost effective to just send me a new/comparable model :rock

I wish I had as good of luck with Toshiba as the rest of you have had.
My Toshiba tube tv lasted about 4 years and the lcd I replaced it with a couple years ago just quit working last friday. No picture and no sound. Called Toshiba and all they could say was unplug it and then plug it back in. That didn't work so they directed me to the nearest authorized Toshiba repair shop...70 miles away.

I'm done with Toshiba.

Just leave it outside when the next twister passes by. ;)

Quick update for anyone interested... I got back with the warranty people today and asked if there were any other TV options. I requested a Phillips that has better overall specs and reviews (but was about $100 more) and they allowed me to pick that instead at no extra cost.

So I'll get a better TV, I can also get an extended warranty on the new TV for 3 years and I don't have to return the old TV.

I think I just made out like a bandit :lol
