I like Buffy... but how does the show Angel compare to it?

I can't really pinpoint what I like about Buffy. It's partly the humor and partly the cute girl(s). :lol

it really depends. at first i didn't like Angel because i thought it was just a dumb spinoff. but halfway through the first season it picked up and after that it was just an awesome ride.
~~and that is one awesome price!!!! 5 seasons?? 40 discs?? yes!!!

Just went ahead and ordered it. Great price. I will probably enjoy it since I enjoyed Buffy. :D

It has the same quirky humor as Buffy but with a darker tone and less of a focus on the romantic relationships. Season 1 is probably closest to Buffy, then it becomes it's own thing.

I wish they'd remaster and release both Buffy and Angel on blu-ray already. I already have both in the individual season fat-cases.

That sounds promising. I don't really care for the romantic aspects of the Buffy series and I definitely like darker tones to shows. I think I have only seen one episode of Angel. If I am not mistaken it had Wesley in it... don't really care for him either. :lol I am rambling now.

As other's have said, it does have a darker tone to it than Buffy did (though I think season 6 and 7 of Buffy was different in tone then previous seasons). Wesley is not the same Wesley from Buffy for much of the latter part of 'Angel', the stories of 'Angel' were a bit more interesting than Buffy (for me) but it does have it's drawbacks at times (mainly season 4 :lol).

I'd say, check it out sometime. Most Buffy fans at least like Angel.

I ended up liking Angel better than Buffy. I loved both shows, but Buffy took a bit to really get going. Angel also took a bit to really take off, but when it did...wow! For me, Buffy suffered a little from confining itself in the High School/College adolescent world, whereas Angel had free reign in that department.

One reason I love Angel:

Hmm... The thing I disliked most about Buffy was.... Angel! I was happy he finally left the show and Spike became more important. Oh, wait, I think I disliked the Riley era more than the Angel era.
I only saw a handful of Angel episodes, and they where ok. So, I might buy the box to see all of them. That's what I did with the Buffy series too: I saw a couple of episodes, liked them, and bought the box, and I don't regret it a minute.

Oh man, if you watch the whole series start to finish, you're in for a real treat with Wesley. He went from being the Buffy/Angel character I despised the most, to be being my favorite. The arc his character goes through on Angel is incredible.

SHHH! Obsoliteman! The Wesley journey is one of the most rewarding parts of Angel! Don't give too much away!

And Alice, I agree that Angel was a bore on Buffy, and even on his own show whenever they referenced back to Buffy, the character suffered. Luckily, Buffy doesn't play too much into the show, and Angel and the rest of the cast (Charisma :drool) really shine.

you guys are really hyping me up! I can't wait to get into this show now. Should I finish all the seasons of Buffy before I start Angel or does it not really matter?

Yes, it's the rest of the cast that intrigues me. Not sure about Wesley though... How can a person change so much? I mean, the Wesley I've seen in Buffy, is COM PLETE LEY different from the one I saw in the few Angel episodes I watched. A different person so to speak!
Of course I'm also eager on seeing the Buffy appearance(s?) on the Angel show.

I'm sure it doesn't really matter. As long as you get past the point where Angel leaves Buffy I think.

It depends where you are in the Buffy series.

You could start watching them together (start season 1 of Angel with the start of season 4 of Buffy) since there are cross overs that happened between both series. But I don't know how realistic watching these two shows in that manner are for most people now that they are on DVD (when they were both on TV it was a nice weekly treat). I would really recommend that you not even start the last season of 'Angel' without having seen the entire Buffy series though.

i like the angel series better than buffy. it is darker and more serious. Plus the character development is some of the best i've ever seen in a TV series. especially cordelia and wesley. by the end of the series you won't even know them as they were in the early seasons of Buffy.

If that is the case, I won't regret ordering the series! I think I'm going to enjoy it. Besides... $50 for the whole load? Can't go wrong with that!

Needles to say that the deal is over now! So for those that always wanted the box... it's gone! I remember passing on the entire Bond collection on DVD for $100 some weeks ago. I regret that now.

I lept on this the last time they had this deal. I'm so glad I did. Angel is one of my favorite shows ever.
