I would hate to see him dilute his skill to make a neutered action movie.

A sci fi action film like Aliens or Predator would be cool. I spent the past week watching and listening to interviews with Stahelski, he's one incredibly knowledgeable and skilled director. I recommend anyone listens to any podcast they can find with him, plus interviews on YouTube.

I doubt the guy wants to make yet another JW movie though.

Every 4th steak I want lobster.

Plus it's very cool seeing him go from Keanu's stunt double wayyyy back on Matrix 1 to today.

The making of doc on Matrix 1 is sooooo good, seeing the big 4 kung fu training.

Had JW not lost 100% of its premium screens it would’ve remained # 1.

We need more Imax/Dolby screens in this country.

I want the director from the JW series to make a SW, Marvel or DC movie.
Some movies absolutely must be seen the first week they're released and JW4 was definitely one of them.

If you snoozed on premium JW you lose!

His next movie is based on the Ghost of Tsushima video game, which is fantastic so curious to see how that turns out.

That did actually blow my mind - I saw JW4 the first time in IMAX. And went home with a headache from all the gunfire at maximum volume lol. But it was an incredible experience, my first time seeing JW in IMAX.

Was going to do it again went I went back for my second viewing yesterday, but Dungeons and Dragons had taken over both of the Dolby and IMAX screens in my theater.

These movie theaters love to complain about how people aren't going to the movies as much, maybe adding more premium viewing experiences would change that. You should have more than a week to be able to get to the theater to see the big releases in Dolby or IMAX.

He's also still attached to the Highlander reboot. Which last I read he was doing next. Cavill is supposed to be in it also, but that news was from a year or more ago so who knows now.

I’ve seen a lot of articles of him talking about the GOT movie so I think that’s the focus right now.

I saw both JW4 and D&D in Dolby, the only way to fly. In just a few days D&D will also suffer the same fate as Wick as it loses all its screens to Mario.

jye I don't think you have any reason to give a crap about D&D but just as an fyi you and your son might like it especially since they played the "heroic father" card at the end which once again got me all misty eyed, lol.

I’m hearing nothing but good things about D&D! :panic:

Also looking forward to Minecraft Wick :yess:

This is us with 2023 cinema…

Almost skipped this movie, but a friend twisted my arm and I'm glad they did. So much better than JW3. I hated that the third film didn't move the plot forward very much (well, it did and then moved it back). This one had the style and substance I needed. Fantastic set pieces and the cinematography was something else. Stahelski's really come into his own.

Donnie Yen absolutely killed it, too. Such a great role.

I was shocked she even went as far to say boppers. I know it was a reference but one could see how both films could almost take place in the same Universe. Over the top street gangs right out of a comic book and I after JW2 I had to go check to see if it was based on a graphic novel due to its comic like world building.
As soon as they cut to the DJ booth, I knew that homage was coming. One of my favorite pulp cinema tropes.

Dude there are scenes that I am *still* laughing about days later. Many parts definitely had a GotG vibe but more organic and less try-hard.
Also looking forward to Minecraft Wick :yess:
:lol

Early pre-viz for JW's finale:

Speaking of holy crap Critical Drinker just posted an almost completely positive review of D&D Honor Among Thieves. :thud:

He liked the characters, said he laughed out loud more than once and thought it had good stakes with genuine heart. I actually wasn't going to openly recommend this movie because I figured you probably needed to be a D&D geek to appreciate it but if he of all people liked it then maybe you guys should consider checking it out, lol.

I was just watching the Dark Knight Returns animated movie with my son and I believe it was around the 25 minute mark when lo and behold the continental building comes up on the screen and we both recognized it immediately after our JW binge marathon and just looked at each other in amazement lol

I saw D&D the day before I saw JW4. Funnily enough, I enjoyed D&D more. It could have gone so wrong but they played it perfectly, balancing on that edge between goody (like most real life RPG sessions) and serious. Was fun spotting all the spells too (even though I'm no D&D expert).

Watching JW4, and all the insane physical stuff Wick gets subjected to, it dawned on me that all the JW movies are not meant to be "stories that could maybe happen", like, for example, Die Hard. They are fables, legends. Even in the movie, Wick is spoken of as the Baba Yaga, which is pretty "meta", because the filmmakers are telling US the campfire story about Wick. That's how you justify that people keep dancing while a shootout plays around them in a club, "that" extreme fall... and so forth. Campfire stories are always embellished by the teller.

I have what will likely be an unpopular take.

Rewatching JW2 again recently, I've decided that John Wick was being completely unreasonable to Santino D'Antonio.

He owed the guy via a blood marker, and the only reason he was shown was being slightly ignorant to the "rules" is that the film needed some exposition from Winston to talk about the consequences of not following through on the debt.

You don't get to decide when your old life shouldn't interfere with your "new life" That's the price of the bad choices you made in your old life. Obviously you wouldn't have a movie had Wick behaved somewhat logically here. But it's actually pretty petty.

Do I think Santino should have blown up Wick's house? No. But if it was me, I'd shoot him in the head right there in his house. Funny as it seems, I think Wick would have honored that. If Santino simply said you owe me your life, so if you won't fulfill your debt, I'm going to have to kill you as a matter of honor. Shot Wick in the head right there in his kitchen and be done with it.

Or Wick could have just killed the sister with a sniper rifle at distance. Waited. Then send an anonymous message to Cassian that the brother was responsible for the hit. Cassian shows up and kills Santino and all problems are now solved (i.e. the risk that Santino would kill Wick to hide who orchestrated his sister's assassination) . Of course in JW3, Wick presents a blood marker to Sofia. She doesn't want to do it, but she owes him.

Wick won't honor his marker cleanly but demands someone else honor their marker cleanly, to wipe away the chaos he created for not wanting to honor his marker cleanly in the first place.

That's a pretty interesting character trait. That Wick is actually an impulsive unreasonable person. Which raises questions what he was like before he met Helen.

We see Wick as the "hero" because it's Keanu Reeves and we are following his journey. But he's actually kind of a jerk. Which is maybe the most hyper realistic thing about the JW series - Be good looking and be seen as dominant at your career as a guy, and society and your peer group will likely give you a free pass on your worst behaviors.
