Thank you so much! I'm super happy with it :) Although I am already well on the way to upgrading it to a S2 version lol
Jetpack, spear, dark saber and S2 armor all are in the works :)

Awesome! Be sure to keep updating here, I would love to see all this! Are you in the 501st?

I'm doing 2 ball joint kits for Grogu.

1. Is for the people who are afraid of bigger modifications. You will still have to do 1 cut. With this figure, it's not possible to get a ball joint if you dont want an even longer neck ;)

2. Is for people who are comfortable to modify.

1. gives you head movements that should be able to create most realistic poses and reduces the neck lengths a bit
2. gives you bigger angles in the movements and also reduces the neck a little bit (around 8.-10mm)

I fully testprinted the 1. version. Not all parts are shown here (just FYI).

I will show you the full version tomorrow. I will give you exact cutting patterns and guide to build it, so you cant mess it up :lol

As soon as I'm finished, I will give you the stl files for free.

Version 1 needs 2 Screws, 1-2 O-rings and something to cut the plastic body. Dremel, sharp hobby knife...

Yes! Was hoping someone would bust out the 3D prints for their mods. I was too nervous to screw with the head, so this is perfect. I was already starting to sketch jointed arms and legs for the body that had a channel running through them for the armature wire, but my CAD skills aren't so hot. Hopefully something like that will be next?

Thanks guys. It will still take some time, but I'm getting there. Proof of concept is ready, but I will reshape it to reduce printing time and space needed inside Grogu.

I'm not using CAD :D I'm using 3ds max, since this is what I know. I dont like the idea of only using wire for the arms too. I don't want noodle arms that can bend at any point :D They should only bend on the elbow and shoulders. You could get away with a aluminum or pvc tube for the "bones", only allowing bending at given points.

Something like this:

Here are the pieces for the version 1 (not final shape). I'm going to widen the hole to the front, so the can tilt even more to the front. Also the bottom will get narrower, due to the internal structure of the body.

How it will work:

1. Take the template (there is a F for fron on it), put it on top of the body (head removed), tape it or hold it and mark the INSIDE of the template with a sharpie. This way you'll get the perfect hole for the housing to fit.
2. Cut on the outside of the marked line
3. screw the ball to the housing with 4 screws (holes are pre made)
4. Put a O-Ring into the socket
5. Put the ball into the socket
6. Insert housing (you might have to open the whole body, I will test it for you). There is a notch around the housing like on the head of grogu, so the body will clamp and hold it tight
7. Slide in the head (front to back)
8. Put on the bracket and screw it with 2 screws

If you have suggestions, just let me hear them. Otherwise I'm gonna optimize the shape and finalize it. I will post a more in depth step by step guide.

Cheers,

Awesome Sphynxi !

Yes a step by step guide with pictures of the 8 plus steps would be best. Also where material needs to be removed exactly.

Perhaps some pics of opening the body would also be good if that is needed.

Maybe some final pics showing full up/down articulation range would be good as well.

Thank you very much :)

I will show where to cut, how to mark, what screws and O-Rings I used and what articulation range there will be. I will demo the Articulation range in a video. I have to plan this, since there is no going back after the cut and I want to show you with the final pieces so there wont be any misunderstanding. Otherwise I would have cut it already and opened the hole as I see fit, but I feel a lot of people are scared of this method ^^

For my Grogu, I will go with version 2. Cutting the bottom piece of the head. This will bring the head closer to the ball joint, allowing more articulation range. But for this, you will need either expanding foam or apoxie sculpt (or similar products). I will show this too, after I finished Version 1, again, because I can't go back, after cutting the bottom part of the head :D

That ball joint system is all looking great Sphynxi! Excited to see how it turns out.

Meanwhile I'm still waiting on this from BBTS. :rotfl Tomorrow marks 1 month since they sent me the "10 day" notice and uh, well evidently it's now been a lot more. Kinda peeved, I emailed them and was told "our inventory is currently in transit and should be arriving at our warehouse any day now though it seems to be taking longer than they first estimated."

So..... hopefully this week? I had thought maybe I got pushed into a second batch of inventory but going off the response I got, that is not the case. Oh well, no rush but was hoping to get this before 2020 was up! I've got a few other things coming to tie me over anyways.

I ordered in March but seeing people who ordered after me already have theirs makes so so impatient lol. I already have so many plans to mod it

Those are great pictures! The black really makes the statue pop.

Still no word from BBTS a month later.....

Buying some spare HT parts - the seller nicely informed me that shipping things is chaotic right now - backups with USPS etc. Sitting on a different UPS shipment where the "label was created" last week and nothing is moving.

U could e-mail BBTS but suspect it's just the mess in the shipping services now.

Sorry if it's already been addressed... but anyone get any updates from Sideshow, regarding shipping dates on The Child?

Finally got my shipping notice and final payment taken from BBTS! I ordered mine this last November.
