Tampon printing or pad printing, I always call it tampon printing.

While there is definitely a fall off in the painting of the production piece, based on the macro photos I've taken of the recent releases (Magneto, Flash, Batman), they appeared airbrushed to me. I could easily be wrong, though.

I would also saw that some of the detail is no doubt lost thanks to the video quality, and the skintone may not be as flat as it appears here. Flash had a pretty uniform skin tone, but Batman and Magneto looked pretty great.

Looks better than in that video but still needs some work.

Yeah, there are two things I quite don’t dig in the portrait: the potato nose and that tight mouth which looks like he’s pushing to fart. I liked the previous sculpt much better, but all in all that’s a solid interpretation and I’m eager to get it.

Agreed that’s why I kept and repainted my original SS Superman sculpts.

Ah, you are right. Maybe if you remove the peg you can try the pose, but it should not be neccessary....

Superman's costume is okay, but the other two look like barbie doll cosplay costumes.
And something about those heads.
I wonder if their licence is for heads that don't look like real people?(In that, they look cartoony).
They have always struggled to sculpt good 1/6 likenesses(Protos can be great, but the final product, not so much), but they seldom look like real humans(In the way Hot Toys and DAM Toys do, almost every time).

They are comic based figures, so they're not going to look like the movie based figures.

I just meant they never seem to be able to make these things on like real people. Not a specific person. Just like a real person.
They also never seem to base them on popular comic versions of the characters. So they just look like cosplayers.

Again, they're based on comics and aren't intended to look lole real people.

As to why they aren't based on specific artist's interpretations, well, there probably rights and licensing involved there.

Also, of the recent Sideshow releases, I own Batman, Flash, and Magneto, and every one of them looks pretty much exactly like the prototype. This idea that there's some gulf between the prototype and the production figure might have been true on Sideshow's older releases, but these new ones are an order of magnitude better.

Personally, I'm more excited for Superman, Cyclops, and Wonder Woman to arrive than any of my current Hot Toys pre-orders (well, except Spider-Man 2099; that figure is straight fire).

Flash was my favorite 1/6 Sideshow head sculpt.

For some reason Sideshow can do fantastic work with their Superman Premium Format head sculpts:

But their 1/6 Superman head sculpts can't compare IMO:

The costume on the new 1/6 Superman looks great (and I happy they changed the logo) but I prefer a more muscular body for Superman and other superheroes for that matter.
Sideshow does for their statues and did that for their first 1/6 Batman.

Their PF sculpts look like they stepped out of DC Comics. The sixth scale aren't good enough to make me buy -- although I'd considered it. I don't mind the most recent one not being really musclebound and bulky, but then the calves seem a little thick and undefined for a smaller body. I don't know -- there's a lot to like here but in the end it's not for me.

I'm fine with the body and really like the pure, comic book costume. But the head kills it for me: I think it just looks goofy. Something along the lines of the Premium Format version would have been awesome.

That?s the prototype. I don?t think the production figure can do that if the reveal video was any indication.
I would wait for more in-hand reviews as the guy in those SS Reveal videos has a hard time posing any figure. I always face-palm when he's introduced as their "1/6 scale expert." He might know some decent information, but I wouldn't consider him an expert by any means.

I agree, I really like their Superman PF sculpts. I'll post pics of my repainted v1 superman heads when I get a chance. I think it makes all the difference once it's been repainted (though we shouldn't have to do that). I'll be using them for this figure when it comes in.

I too prefer a more muscular Superman so I have a frankensteined body I've been working on in my spare time for this release. I just hope the belt fits

True, the original SS Batman had a pretty muscular body but a tiny waist and tiny ankles. Even though it was around 12", visually he looked short and stocky.

The SS Superman body was actually quite nicely built. It was the cut and sew of the suit that let it down and didn't show it's true potential. Tony Mei did a few custom suits for that body and it really looked fantastic.
