Real chain mail has been done, look at the COO Model 1/6 crusader knights. Those along with this Witcher being shown by AB are all larger than 1/6 scale (the chain mail). If you take those and scale it up to 1:1, most arrows can go through the holes. For those that want scale accuracy, they won't be happy with it.

Is it chain mail or just knitted/woven metallic?

EDit - never mind, at least the Witcher one looks molded plastic.

That is excellent news.

I remember asking a long time ago for generic "soldier" figures. Would love to see Gondorian, Ranger, Easterling, Haradrim and elven soldiers being released, along with orcs, goblins and Uruk-hai types.

That is indeed good to hear.
Armour/costume sets will work perfectly for the human and elf forces but orcs, goblins and Uruks will all need their own specially built bodies. Perhaps there could be a generic Uruk Hai body and then we could choose from a selection of clothing options ranging from Amon Hen, Helms Deep full armour, Berserker, Cirith Ungul etc. each set including a different head sculpt.

I think a Ringwraith clothing set would be ridiculously easy to put out and would really entice the hardcore fools such as myself to complete ‘The Nine.’ Multiple purchases per costumer would be almost guaranteed.

That's an awesome idea. If Asmus could make the armor in each set slightly different from each other (like ACI did: they had 2 slightly different Nazguls), these sets would be even more enticing and sellable......

They're lazy just give up

IMO that's pretty harsh unless u've sat down and done that kind of work, to-scale, and then market and still clear a profit. Also u can wave around what other
people have done, but without it being in hand u don't know scale, underlying body, where corners were cut, etc.
With ASMUS I already know I'll get value for price with plenty of details and the figure will actually be be able to stand up. Oh, yeah, and licensed product.

Speakin' of lazy, peeps want genuine to-scale armor that bad, check out the Eowyn thread and make it urself. Ask that customizer how much he'd charge.

If I linked all those jump rings I'd make the customer pay plenty just for labor. So get urself some jump rings and round nose pliers and get to work.
Make sure u post pics later with instructions 'coz sure all of us would like to know how easy it all is.

:lecture :goodpost: Exactly. And anyone who knows real chain mail will tell you that no one is able to make them accurately 1/6 scale ? all of the rings on the ones currently made on a mass-produced scale are too big.

Yeah, I could link chains of soft 7-9mm rings and up *reasonably* fast (no soldering). It would look like *&^* on a fig *doll clothes*, but if I'm ever gonna try to do accurate BOFA chain mail for Thorin that's days of labor. Weeks. Not to mention BOFA chain mail was made of diamond-shaped links, so the links would have to be hand made of square wire - that gauge not so easy to find. Weeks of making and chaining 2-3mm diamond-shaped links.

And as ASMUS has pointed out, the days of less-expensive Asian labor are gone. True for the polystone industry too.

I'm sorry if this was listed here but searching turned up no results.

Are there plans for a 1/6 scale Sauron figure at some point? This is noticeably missing from the collection.

Also thank you so much for taking your time to respond to these threads. I wish other companies were as in touch with their fans.

They confirmed it a while ago and have never put out any info since. No love for the lord of the rings himself.

Not yet, but give it time, I?m sure they?ll do him.
I was thinking about how big he would be and maybe HT Thanos height for the body?

I think the sideshow statue is like 23 inches in height so yeah he?ll be tall.

Oh, he's definitely on my wish list.

I could see them modifying a standard 1/4 scale (18") base body to get most of the way there without having to engineer everything from scratch. I think the character is meant to be around 10 feet tall in the movie, so, add some ankle extenders and his spiky helm and you're pretty much there, size-wise. The armor might be tricky as there are lots of little fiddly bits.

I wonder if they would consider going for mostly metal with the armor or if plastic would be the sensible way to go. I also wonder if, given his size, they might actually want to try some real metal chain mail on him. He doesn't have much in the costume, but there is a kind of loincloth of chain mail that hangs down the front and back over his ... eh ... area. Complicated chain mail outfits may not be cost effective, but maybe simple triangles would be manageable on this figure.

Yes it's tall, but still looks very good next to the fellowship. And Elrond in armor will be welcomed next to him ! I'm curious to see what Asmus could do with Sauron but I think the Sideshow statue does the job. And sorry for the crappy phone pic, difficult to control the light...

This isn’t really LOTR related but this seems like a good place to get in touch with Asmus, so... I am sitting here watching Willow and I gotta ask, does Asmus have any interest in acquiring this license. You guys have done an amazing job with the armor and costumes on your Lord of The Ring line and I think you are the only ones who could bring this line to life and do it justice. I can promise I would clear out a corner for Mad Martigen, Sorcia, and Willow. Anyone else interested in this.

I definitely would be in. Would love those, and adding Elora and the two Brownies with Willow would be amazing. :)
