It reminds me a little bit of the MAS-38, an underpowered pre-War SMG with a receiver mechanism that was actually placed at an angle to the actual barrel:Yeah, it's a silly looking gun.
Are any real world guns as poorly designed?

I’d make a joke about French weapon design here but for the fact that the frogs have now been using the rather badass-looking FAMAS for the better part of half a century, a gun which I suspect may also have helped inspire the design of the Colonial Marines’ pulse rifle:
