Surprised there isn't already a thread for this.
Today was the first day of shooting on the highly anticipated TNT series L.A. Noir.
The series is being described as a “fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and ’50s.” It is based on John Buntin’s book L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America’s Most Seductive City, about the decades-long conflict between the LAPD and a ruthless criminal elements including Mickey Cohen.
If the plot sounds familiar it should since it is also the basis for the upcoming film The Gangster Squad.
The series is being written and directed by Frank Darabont who also developed The Walking Dead which is why it is no surprise Jon Bernthal (who played the recently killed off Shane on Walking Dead) has landed a lead role in L.A. Noir. Simon Pegg and Milo Ventimiglia also star.

Frank Darabont must've had more fun on The Walking Dead than we thought. With the casting news of deceased Dead players Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) and Andrew Rothenberg (Jim, also completely dead) joining Darabont's forthcoming TNT series L.A. Noir, plus the earlier casting of Jon Bernthal (Shane), that's three alums from Darabont's ill-fated stint at AMC. (To be fair, DeMunn is basically Russell Crowe to Darabont's Ridley Scott — he even took part in 2006's wretched The Mist.)
