Surprised there isn't already a thread for this.

Today was the first day of shooting on the highly anticipated TNT series L.A. Noir.

The series is being described as a “fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and ’50s.” It is based on John Buntin’s book L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America’s Most Seductive City, about the decades-long conflict between the LAPD and a ruthless criminal elements including Mickey Cohen.

If the plot sounds familiar it should since it is also the basis for the upcoming film The Gangster Squad.

The series is being written and directed by Frank Darabont who also developed The Walking Dead which is why it is no surprise Jon Bernthal (who played the recently killed off Shane on Walking Dead) has landed a lead role in L.A. Noir. Simon Pegg and Milo Ventimiglia also star.

Frank Darabont must've had more fun on The Walking Dead than we thought. With the casting news of deceased Dead players Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) and Andrew Rothenberg (Jim, also completely dead) joining Darabont's forthcoming TNT series L.A. Noir, plus the earlier casting of Jon Bernthal (Shane), that's three alums from Darabont's ill-fated stint at AMC. (To be fair, DeMunn is basically Russell Crowe to Darabont's Ridley Scott — he even took part in 2006's wretched The Mist.)

Re: TNT's 'L.A. Noir'

Exactly, it has nothing to do with the game. The only things that are similar are the setting/time period, and the appearance of Mickey Cohen.

Oh, and the ____ing title. :lol

Wanna see this show, love TWD and 1940s era stuff.

Re: TNT's 'L.A. Noir'

Well. It won't be.

But....Frank Darabont = Must watch, everytime.

It'll be nice to see Jon back. Hopefully TNT will treat him a bit better.

Frank Darabont's New TNT Series Forced to Change Title Thanks to L.A. Noire

Frank Darabont has had to change the title of his new TNT TV series, originally called L.A. Noir, thanks to the video game L.A. Noire.

Said Darabont, with a bit of amusing hyperbole, “It was going to be called L.A. Noir, based on the book by John Buntin. But the video game company with the video game called L.A. Noire (with an e!) threatened to sue the **** out of me, TNT, every company that actually ever worked in Hollywood. And they have the billions of dollars to back it up, apparently. So we're changing the title, and I do believe the title is going to be Lost Angels.”

But according to Take-Two...

It’s unfortunate that Mr Darabont finds it necessary to gain publicity by making inaccurate statements -– Take-Two never contacted Mr Darabont nor threatened to sue any party. The facts are that Take-Two reached out to Turner to express concern over confusion between the properties and they responded that they had decided to change the title of the show independent of Take-Two’s concerns.
