So, I decided I wanted to add a pair of these bad boys to my collection:

I looked around online, and while I found a handful of available models to 3D print, nobody had really made one that was satisfactorily screen-accurate enough. Either the vent shape/number was off, the handle wasn't right, missing other details, etc. So, with my limited modeling skills, I decided to just make my own.

From there it was just a matter of getting all of the pieces printed out.

Installing the little grate inserts.

Forming the upper barrel.

First layer of bondo.

Using an epoxy putty to start forming some of the more complex curves in the handle.

Quick thin layer to primer to check the surface finish.

More putty, more sanding.

Starting paint.

Finished gun.

Came out pretty good. There are a few small tweaks I'd like to make, and I still need to do a second blaster for the other hand. I'm thinking I might try casting molds of the pieces the next time around, to make them easier to reproduce.

Startastic work! ;)

Holy ****, dude, that came out great. Do you have experience with painting?

Thanks man.

Yeah, I do: some thousands of hours painting wargaming miniatures and other odds and ends. So I know my way around a brush ;)

Which 3d program did you use?

Hah, TinkerCAD XD It's a free online program. The tools are basic, and you have to work harder to make some complex shapes happen; I doubt it could be used for organic sculpting. But the interface is easy to use and the learning curve is quick :)

Thank you for the info. I was looking for another program other than Google Sketchup as that program seems to have turned into a shareware app - I want to learn how to make accessories for dios and transformers figs, so this is perfect
