Bit of work to do painting heads/helmets etc. and the "Generals" are a bit of a work in progress, see what's in my bits 'n' bobs draw... anyone want to donate some old Hasbro clone/stormtrooper armour, feel free!
Hi Dude
I did a Sandtrooper kitbash using a Hasbro base awhile back, which I was pretty happy with. Wether it's cost effective or not is another matter.
Bits I would replace:
Helmet (Sideshow/Marmit)
Shoulder Bells (Sideshow)
Abdomine/Groin Armour (Sideshow)
Hands
Feet
But for cost...
If your looking at $30 for the Hasbro
Then $30 for a True Type
All the other bits (Can't remember the cost but got all from Toy Anxiety must have been about $30/40)
So in the end cost about as much as buying a SS Trooper!
Now, you could pick up a cheaper body for $10 maybe but then you get issues with attaching hands/feet.
Ultimately you could save a bit, but I don't think you'll make a $30/40 trooper to army build with, also you've the time factor involved in the build.
Of course that is outweighed by the fun and satisfaction of making your own troopers!
I love the clones, but decided that 3 is enough for me for now... at least until I have begun building my imperial army!
I will soon be the somewhat proud, somewhat dissapointed-because-it's-not-sideshow owner of a Hasbro imperial officer, which I plan to swap over to a different body.
I am wondering what the best route of getting stormies would be... should I pay around $100 + shipping for a SS stormie, or should I modify a Hasbro stormie I could get for around $30? I know SS stormies are much better quality-wise than modded Hasbro's could be, but I do have other projects that require funding, and they wouldn't get any if I spent $120 on a single stormtrooper...
As for modding the Hasbro, I'm thinking body swap, some armor-tightening, and a recast of stormtrooper lolly-pop helmet for the head (similar to the clone trooper lolly-pop helmet, it is fairly accurate and does not resemble a lolly-pop, but rather is a bust in which a lolly-pop can be stored)... of course I could pick up a few SS armor pieces to replace some of the Hasbro ones...
anyway, would modifying a Hasbro be worth it? If so, what's the best Hasbro stormtrooper to start with? If I modified a Hasbro stormtrooper, what armor pieces would be most important to replace with sideshow parts?
Please help me.
just finished this, all sideshow armor, plus mix of sideshow/GG helmet.
Nice trooper shots. Good to see them without stands.
