Regardless of this being a "hoax", I think Sony is still treating this seriously. I bet that right now, they're rigorously checking over their security systems just to be on the safe side.

They should always be verifying their software and hardware to ensure it is sufficiently hardened. The last time they got breached, they were running an outdated version of Apache/Tomcat. When you run unpatched software, then you are asking for it. Publicly disclosed vulnerabilities creep up and exploit code finds their way in open source vulnerability scanners.

If they patch on a regular basis, and routinely run VA scans on their software/hardware, they will be in a better place.

Are these hackers jerks? Yes. But they are also exposing how frivolous organizations are in handling our sensitive data that we have entrusted them with. If they show they are not practicing due diligence and due care, they should be held liable.
