Painting a urethane rubber head.

I have a head I would like to paint made of urethane rubber. I've read it is okay to use acrylic paint if it's a static piece.

So a few quick questions?

Do I start with a coat of primer?
Acrylic paint is okay?
Can I use soft pastels for some detail?
Clear coat with something like plastikote?


A couple more questions. I have a sideshow head I want to repaint. With repainting sculpts do you still need to bother with primer or can I just paint over it and clear coat it?

Also with polymer clay, do you need to bother with primer or can you just paint over.
