I always felt it cheapened the character to have to reintroduce an aspect that was removed and proved successful without it. Biggest flaw of the remake as well. If they'd made Freddy actually innocent of everything, it would've breathed new life into the character. Instead they just killed it for "superficial shot value."

Agreed, I was enjoying the idea that Freddy was an innocent seeking revenge right up until they confirmed he was a pedo.
Still, I think we all know him being the bastard son of 100 maniacs is still the best option we have to explain his origins
