Thought I'd toss one in here after having previously jumped right into established threads in other sub-forums.
I joined just recently after my first Sideshow purchases which are as yet undelivered. But that's another story.
I've been collecting "toys" since (literally) I was born - and that's now just over 40 years ago. I'm just glad that girlfriends past and wife currently have never minded.
Most recently I've been into making live child replicants. I started with a girl just over three years ago and with the help of my wife we put out a 2.0, a boy this past December. So far they're holding up great, no paint wear, nice solid joints and decent dispositions. Each has their own diorama (everyone else calls them bedrooms) and they're also a hit with friends and family. The only issue is ongoing costs, especially the need to constantly replace costumes/clothes.
My collecting habits definitely lean towards "toys" even if most of the more expensive stuff is not child-friendly. I've got a decent collection of vintage items from the early 70's and 80's, but I try to restrict it only to things I had as a child. Either stuff I've had the entire time, or replacements I've acquired due to breakage/loss.
Lines/types collected:
Die-cast cars/vehicles in 1:64 and 1:43, mostly Matchbox, only vintage items
A (very) small number of Tonka (vintage only).
Famosa (Spain) and similar vintage rubber squeezable/posable toys
Games and accessories from the early-mid 80's (Rubiks, Coleco, Wico, etc.)
A few Fisher Price toddler toys, vintage (70's only) Little People and Adventure People
Mego 8" Star Trek and WGSH (World's Greatest Super Heroes) + a mint 12" Hulk
Vintage 3 3/4 Star Wars (original 12 with mail-away stand is my highlight), mostly ESB stuff.
HUGE Star Wars POTF2 1995+ collection (stopped in early 2001 but had almost everything at that point)
Anime/Mecha stuff: Some old vintage robots like Voltron, Daitarn and a couple of Transformers, plus a brand new 1/48 Yamato Macross Valkyrie VF-1S (super nice).
1/6 stuff:
Six Million Dollar Man (3-4 characters and a couple of accessories)
Vintage 70's Kenner Star Wars (12 or so, including a few dupes, some in my possession since being bought new).
1995+ SW Collector Series (many of these, including the Dewback and Taun Taun highlights)
Miscellaneous 1/6 items, including a couple of civilian 21st Century, Hot Toys Indy and Medicom Henry Sr., Hot Toys Alice from Resident Evil and Hot Toys Superman (Reeve of course - still need to actually get this one)
Hot Toys Batman (TDKR and newer, including the two signature Hot Toys vehicles - awaiting delivery)
Hot Toys/Sideshow Star Wars - currently only Bespin Luke from HT, but I really want some (SW & ESB) troopers from Sideshow.
Custom bashes*: Examples: putting together a modern skier (already have most of the parts, including the base skis) and a couple of general contractors and painters, one being a gift for my brother in the summer. If anyone ever sees any painter related items (brushes, rollers, cans, trays), PLEASE let me know - so far it looks like I'll have to scratch make these accessories. And can't forget James Bond. Craig in Casino Royale bashed from Brothers Prod. + extras & Dr. No James Bond (Maximus Connery sculpt on MI6 Brothers body/clothes with mods when they ship).
Holy Grail Toy (don't own one and hold very little hope of it): Mint, with mint box 1976 Stretch Armstrong - prices for something not even close to this are astronomical due to scarcity, which has been exacerbated by one or two collectors buying up almost all inventory that ever appears on the market.
My new office is being set up as a show-piece and I'm trying to cram as much stuff as possible in here within reason - everything needs to display nicely. I definitely don't have the space in this room to display my entire SW POTF2 collection though, so a number of things will stay in storage until I build out the basement and/or give a few items to the kids. I have a lot of early McFarlane Spawn series that I really want to unload, and those are likely to be given away for example.
I'm still in acquisition and build-out mode, and not everything on the list above is here at the moment. One recent revelation is that I'm missing my Six Million Dollar Man bits - Fingers crossed they're up in storage at my parents place, where I had put everything 12 years ago when I didn't have the space for it where I was living at the time. When everything thaws out it's digging time to find out.
Phew.
* If I knew it would help the Apple stock price, I'd start bashing custom Steve Jobs and other Apple alumni too.
