Hello
I have army green pants that i want to dye into black.
If i use acrylic paint in a bowl of water and dip the pants in it
Will that do it?

Rit black dye.

fill up a small container with hot tap water
add a half bottle of dye.
mix it.
submerge the pants in the dye for about an hour.
take the pants out and lay on top of papertowels on a paper plate or something that you won't use again (because of staining)
let dry , repeat again if not satisfied.

And be sure to stretch the pants ever now and then to make sure they don't shrink.

If the threads don't take, black acrylic bath time....

I've used Rit to dye a jean vest black. The color doesn't come out pitch black, but kind of purplish, at least it did with a light blue denim jacket and I've read that's typical. The threads didn't take the dye. Also add some salt to the hot water and dye mix, it's supposed to help the process. Even if it's not perfectly black I'd still recommend it.

These are the pants i want to dye

+1 on the RIT fabric dye. I took a light brown coat and dyed it to black. You could always strip the color first and then add black if you wanted to, but that's not usually necessary with such a strong color like black. This was the result on my Sherlock.
