So I finally saw the film this evening.
I largely thought it as a whole was boring. I'd rank it just above TPM and AotC. After the scene with Leia in space, I largely tuned out of anything else that was happening in the film outside of the Luke-Rey-Kylo triangle. That I thought was fine and were the only interesting characters, but literally every other character in it (outside of Leia just because of her connection to Luke) I felt was largely pointless. Finn was pointless, Rose pointless, I guess that's it for Phasma, and Snoke turned out to be pointless as well. While the concept of a casino planet would fit in the SW Galaxy, the execution of it made it seem like it was something out of the Fifth Element, and everyone there was dressed the way you'd expect to see people dressed as if it were a casino on a cruise ship. I also thought there was too much forced humor, but some parts, it was fine. When Leia first met "Luke" and she made the remark about her hair, I thought was fine. Two siblings just ribbing each other. Also Chewy's ongoing battle with the Porgs I thought was genuinely funny as well and fine, very Chewy-esque.
Luke was the hero of the film, both in it and as far as making this film remotely interesting. As far as his character goes, I found his arc to be interesting and his actions and behavior I thought were consistent with the OT. At the end of the OT, he was the hopeful and bright, a newly christened Jedi who thought he had eradicated all evil for good and was going to rebuild the Jedi and there would be sunshine and rainbows. Despite him defeating Vader, it makes sense that Luke still had much to learn. And what he found out, scared him. However, the Luke that was the hero of the OT returned at the end of this film and was the hero again.
I personally liked the way he passed away in the film, peacefully on his own terms while still being the hero. I wouldn't have wanted to see Luke get struck down or defeated, or even voluntarily struck down like Obi-Wan. I do wish he would have made it to Episode IX and then passed away much in the same manner, but I still really liked his character in this film and as I mentioned, found him, Rey and Kylo to be the only interesting things about it.
Luke, Rey and Kylo would be the only figures I'd get from this film. Already have the first two on PO, but will pass on Kylo as I like his TFA look better and liked the film much better.
