Eh? double checks rottentomatoes...

You're right. I must have been looking at the audience rating. Hulk got 62% from critics.

The funny thing with Lee's Hulk is that I just respect it so damn much for daring to be artistically different, to actually be artistic, even if it didn't really work in the end.

I think Roger Eberts review captures how I feel about it. It's a good read.

There are some truly beautiful scenes and moments in Ang's Hulk accompanied with excellent acting and a few cool action beats.

Ultimately it does fail for me though, it just needed a-lot more action.

Early reviews on this are not very good. I kinda figured as much. It's obviously not done in the style of X-men First Class. Seems to be like they are saying - over produced, loud and noisy, lots of commotion, but not much substance underneath in terms of story, acting, dialogue etc. Which is "ok" I guess for this kind of movie. But for those expecting "the" epic superhero movie of the summer, might be disappointed.
Depending on where Rotten Tomatoes stands on Friday and word of mouth from real reviewers, I will either go see this or Super 8.
Right now it's looking like Super 8 lol

:monkey2

Getting back to the reviews, I'm a weird dude when it comes to the genre flicks (meaning not Oscar stuff like Terms of Endearment).

It really takes a-lot for me to hate a Superhero movie.

My definition of "liked it or loved it" comes down to if I feel the movie is worth owning which translates to repeat viewings.

I don't own nor will ever own Superman III and IV, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Catwoman or Elektra.

But when in the mood I enjoy revisiting Daredevil DC, AL Hulk, Blade 3, Ghost Rider, Punisher 1, Punisher WZ and FF4 1 and 2, so I own them which translates to liking them.

GL will either fall into that category or it just may turn out to be one of the greats like BB, TDK, IM, Thor etc, i'll know tomorrow at midnight.

But for me personally, I doubt it will fall into Superman IV territory :lol

You and I dear sir approach these films from the same perspective. It takes a lot for me not to enjoy comic films. Comics were a huge part of my childhood and watching these characters on the big screen is awesome! I have a scale ranging from a great flick - to a fun ride - to perhaps watch if on television. I tend to find the good in most of the films.

Here is the review from Bleeding Cool:

He relates it a lot to Donner's Superman more than anything else. This is an interesting end as well:

Green Lantern is a kids movie. But, like Star Wars, like Superman, like the Tim Burton Batman films, it’s a kid’s movie that fanboys can enjoy. If they can just lighten up a little.

A lot of what he liked and his daughter liked I have a feeling is a strong reason why a lot of casual comic fans whom are reviewing are hating on it.

Just bought my ticket for the 10:15pm REAL 3D showing of GL.

Then I went to rottentomatoes and found out this film is apparently not worth the money. Really sad if true and if true a big, big blow to DC/WB trying to snag a share of the comic book movie market (outside Nolan's Batman) and best Marvel Studios. Looks like DC/WB may have another massive disappointment on their hands to go with Red, Jonah Hex, Constantine, Catwoman, and The Losers, and in a lot of minds, Superman Returns. Plus, you've got that Wonder Woman television series fiasco to put the bitter icing on top. It seems like DC/WB can't put a big hit up on screen that wows critics, fans and non fans alike outside of Nolan's Batman films.

It doesnt need to be dark and ____ to be fun....we'll see though. If the characters, and script are good....then i'll enjoy it.

i think like with any movie...go in with an open and mind and dont worry about the reviews from dudes who do reviewing movies as a job.
In the end..YOU will know if YOU like it or not,and that is all that matters.
Having said that, this doesnt come out in Australia til freakin AUGUST!!

oh,and Thor would be one of those flicks where someone on here posted a link to that reviewer dude how panned the crap out of that movie....and seriously,Thor was pretty darn good.

I wouldnt be surprised if Tformers 3 is the hit of the year ;)

Super 8 was great..

I never read a Green Lantern comic in my life so I'll like it. I've liked most of the superhero movies probably because I don't sit and try to compare it to the comics. I can't.

Just got back from my early screening. I liked it. I'd say it was better than Thor (Thor just didn't get to do anything for 90% of the movie), but the rest of the family liked Thor better. Its no X-men or Super 8, but it is a LOT better than the trailers made it out to be. I'm very curious to see more takes on this when it opens though.

I'm going to go into spoiler mode now, but just as a general FYI, you WILL want to stay for the mid-credit scene :wink1:

The film sets up GL really well with the whole mythology, parallax, the guardian, the corps, etc. Even non-fans should be able to get the concept, which of course is the biggest hurdle with a new hero audiences aren't familiar with.

The suit? It works on screen. Still a little weird looking next to real people in real clothes, but all of the scenes on Oa and with other special effects characters looks just fine. So a full CGI suit wasn't the mistake the first trailers made it out to be. Would a spandex suit have been better? Hard to say without having seen one.

Hector Hammond is a minor villian as far as super hero films go, but he is insanely creepy. Very well done prosthetics. He was very gross to look at and I couldn't even see where the prosthetic started and ended so two thumbs way up on his make up!

Parallax is the main villian, if the film has one. He doesn't really seem like the threat he is made out to be. He killed Abin in the begining, wipes out some lanterns in the middle, and comes to earth at the end. The end battle is HUGELY anti-climatic. Basicall he octopusses Coast City, Hal shows up, draws him to space, and throws him into the sun. The end. Very disapointing. I think the end 'fight' will really hurt audience reactions to the film overall. It just felt like they kept building up to an epic battle that never came.

All of the alien corps members looked fantastic, but very under used. Mattel has made pretty much any any GL with a split second of screen time. Sinestro, Kilowog, and Tomar Re have only just a few minutes of screen time, with Sinestro getting the most. But what you do get of them, he is fantastic. You don't get that 'oh, he's going to be a bad guy' vibe from him like you do with so many hero turned villian characters. You just get the idea he's willing to do what it takes to protect the corp, even if it means using fear.

So the big question everyone wants to know, do we get to see yellow ring Sinestro? And the answer is yes. In the mid-credit scene Sinestro puts on the ring has gets his Sinestro Corps costume! I can't tell you how much I want a figure of that. It looked even better than the GL suits!

Oh, and the rumored John Stewart cameo didn't happen. No cameos other than Sinestro Corps Sinestro were really in it. Sure Carol had the Saphire symbol, but other than those, there really isn't any forshadowing.

See it. You probably won't love it like some of the other films this year, but you'll enjoy it! :rock

Interesting. I thought X-Men and Super 8 were good films but not better than Thor so thats looking like it could be a decent flick.

My biggest problem with Thor was that he was powerless for most of the movie. And when he got his powers back, it was just a few minutes at the end. I don't feel he got to do a whole lot of super-heroing. If the Avengers wasn't coming up, I would be very disapointed with what we got with Thor. I felt it was just a set up movie. A Thor 2 would even been a lot better since they can go smash things then.

GL won't be everyone's cup of tea. If you like the comics and the idea behind GL, I think you'll like it. If you just don't get or care for the idea of constructs, etc. then you probably won't. Like Thor, this feels like a set up movie. There is so much more potential that what we get in the end. I just really hope we get a GL 2 so they can really push things further.

I liked that he had to come back and redeem himself. That to me was one of the best parts and made when he did have power at the start and finish even cooler. I loved that movie and is gonna take something pretty special this summer to top that for me. So I'm really eager to see if there is anything this summer can match it.

Oh I'm sure. I haven't seen anything that makes me think I won't like this. I'm looking forward to tomorrow at midnight.

Interesting that X-Mex could be the best comic movie of the summer. Maybe even the best movie of the summer.

With you on THOR...best movie this year so far! and in top 5 in Comic Movies

Good to see some positive reviews coming in now. Admittedly, all the negativity has me a little worried, but I'm still super excited for this film.
