As for the perfect base, I'm super curious about how they approached it.

I think they were on the right direction with the unreleased Dark Phoenix comiquette.

Personally I would've made a post-apocalyptic theme (ie like the Thanos Diorama only with XMEN elements), or a very subdued Phoenix flame effect emerging from bottom of base. I would keep the X-Danger Room bases that they included with the new Wolverine... and use that as a jump off point for a 70s themed XMEN collection

A Mark Brooks Phoenix comiquette would have sold well for sure! Regardless, I'm excited for the reveal. I'm not sure how long this upcoming DP statue was in development, but you have to think the XM Phoenix, Magneto, and Thanos statues have at least caused SS to take notice and up their game regarding art direction. Say what you will about how they turned out, but the concepts behind them really made them stand out along with the fact that SS had yet to touch them in 1/4 scale at that point in time. SS lost out in potential sales had they done those statues first. But the question is whether we would have seen better statues in terms of the design elements without other companies tackling those statues first.

Ill just start off by saying I am truly grateful a Dark Phoenix PF is being made.

If I criticized the pose I'd probably go against one of my cardinal rules being if you don't have something nice to say....

Either or, it baffles me when Sideshow gets the input from collectors on that other forum, most of them tear everything apart and don't end up purchasing it, and when it is well received they jump up and down on the bandwagon.

Cus, yeah a Magneto PF totally wouldn't sell?? .... *sarcasm*

I started collecting in 2010, and what they've done for other lines in comparison to the XMEN line is a bit unfair IMO. I mean, they pumped out several Avengers, Court of the Dead, HeMan pieces within a year.. and 5 years later I am grateful for a Dark Phoenix, but I do think they missed the boat on some opportunities. IE-Magneto sold like hotcakes for XM, same with Phoenix (I wonder why..).

My classic pieces were designed at a time when Sideshow was a much different company, the art director left (at the time) and although many of those pieces were static in pose and more museum, I still think those were some of the best work released (IE-Gambit, Hawkeye, Deadpool, Freddy Krueger, Psylocke, Cyclops, Storm) ETC.

I'm still optimistic about the pose on Dark Phoenix, but either or it's almost a guarantee that Ill preorder it, I do think that the person that was behind the line back during inception KNEW what epitomized and made each character great. I wouldn't have picked either pose on the recent Jean, or Emma but I still managed to make it my own for my collection.

Not sure if I got your point, but I think that X Men have been universally requested through all boards and Facebook groups for years, much more than any other comic characters. There's a number of extremely popular characters that would have sold like cakes regardless of the year they were produced, it was only up to Sideshow to make them. Blaming the collectors is unfair, this is if I got your point right, not sure if I did since the sentences are separated.
I also think it's hard to criticize the pose right now unless you have already seen it, can't figure from your post, or maybe from what it's been shown is already too dynamic or too static for your tastes.

Same way, I think that overall people tend to praise good pieces and criticize bad ones - because let's be honest here, tastes are tastes and so on, but some pieces come out better than others. And some pieces come out sensibly better than others. Too bad that money is money and the ones that come out flawless are paid with the exact same currency used for the ones that come out like a trainwreck - statistics suggest that if you buy a certain amount of pieces, chances are that you'll receive good ones and bad ones, hence the appreciation for the good ones and bitterness for the bad ones.

As for the base, pretty much everything done with some common sense will do it for me. Just not the crappy black base with the X sticker that peels over time and looks cheap as hell. What if the base itself had the shape of a Phoenix (even a stylized one), possibly cast in clear resin like Green Lantern's base? It would be nice, related to the character and not too invasive.

I didn't blame the collectors, I blame the fair weather fanatics on that other forum that don't even have a Gambit PF yet they still shoot their mouths off like someone gives a damn about what they think.

Vince Vells Dark Phoenix custom YouTube making of reached over 65 000 views from people that have been interested in a Dark Phoenix piece. I didn't read the rest of your ignorant post.

I think this DP has a better pose from what I can see than any other X-Men statue they've done. Rogue and Jean Grey look very awkward imo and most others are just standing around. Gambit is great on every level though, and no I don't own him either lol.

I think he's saying he doesn't like the pose but instead of saying why, he's blaming someone on the other forum that gave David Igo(art director of SS) input on the character lol. I'm curious why you don't like the pose Rulk?

Hmmm... goin way off topic here. We need more pics haha

I'm liking what i am seeing, i think the price would be the only thing that would stop me from ordering. This year is looking really good so far! DP, Captain marvel and gamora. I got really turned off last year with all these variants and delays, good to see sideshow come back with some nice previews.

cool base idea Rulk. As for me, I'm not just gonna buy her bc she is DP. I need SS to sell me a little on this one. I already have the Jean Grey PF displayed with Cyclops and my XM Phoenix blazing. SS needs to convince me I need a 3rd Phoenix in my collection.

Thanks for the subtitles mate, I kinda understand now. Can't believe that MY post was deleted while his jerkish post is still there, but whatever, gave up trying to understand moderation on this board.

And if you aren't worried about price increases and want Magneto so bad, get the XM one. Like Sideshow would really listen to one person and not do a piece. I think the problem is ... you just like to complain and point fingers.

This is my line of thought as well. No doubt this will be sexy as hell and prob look pretty fantastic but I gotta save for when they put out some non jean grey X-men:lol

Is there a usual timeframe for a reveal? Or is it just a random timeframe during the day?
