that sucks !!
that why I try my best not to touch them at all once they go in my cabinet.

You have no idea how true that is! :banghead

Anyway, just to update everyone...both legs are spoken for. The left knee on the spare leg I had split when I was checking it out. I've got an idea to repair it using a double-jointed arm from a female figure body. I'll let you guys know how that turns out.

Some anatomy of an Alien leg now that I've pulled one apart. Since a few people seem to hae run into this issue, hopefully we can make a repair thread out of it.

The knee joint actually shouldn't be that bad to replace. The shaft into upper leg terminates in a ball & socket joint...so you can pull this out with a pair of needlenose pliers. As you can see, the split halves of the upper joint slider over the center of the lower joint and screw together. It's where the hemispheres (probably not the right word) join to the upper shaft that the plastic is very thin. The black plastic is also rather brittle. The interesting thing? The right-side kneejoint was clear plastic when pulled apart to check about swapping. I'm not sure if this difference in material or a running production change. Has anyone had a broken knee made of the clear plastic?

Now that I actually know what's in there, I'll see if I can't find something better. The black sleeve should cover anything relatively thin.

I built a new articulation using metal parts, but never could get it to hold a pose, so asked for a replacement leg anyway.
It's a real shame about these figures...

Wow, you'd think that they were made out of tissue paper with all of these problems.

Just about the truth. The contact area holding the hemispheres to the upper thigh mount is very small, so it puts a lot of stress on that area when you bend the legs with those tight joints.

Anyway, got a couple of options to try and fix these. In addition to the arm joint from the Cy girl figure, I also found some scrapped Spawn figures that have tight double joints. I think one of those will work fairly well, although I'd prefer a joint of a similar style as the original more.

Send those pictures to Hot Toys and see what they think about it.I personally think its bull**** how this can happen to such an expensive piece. But damn it if Hot Toys isn't the best in the 1/6 market. So good and so bad at the same time!Oh well,I'm scared to move the legs on my aliens now.

OK, I dug around in my parts box and found what I *think* was a shoulder joint to a Samurai Spawn figure...not sure which one exactly. Anyway, it was the only one small and tight enough to work for this repair. Basically, I dremmelled the rest of the shaft out of the lower leg, and cut the rest of the shaft from the ball on the upper leg joint. I then drilled out both the lower leg and upper thigh ball to allow the plugs into place for strength. I'll finish it off with some JB Weld to make the new joint permanent, but it really works fairly well. It's slightly thicker under the rubber sleeve than the original joint, but most of that is covered by the shroud in the upper and lower legs. The new joint should hold the weight of the figure, and also has click stops to make it sturdier. I generally don't like click-stop joints, but I think they're an asset in this scenario.

Gads, I just repaired a Hot Toys figure using a McFarlane product. I think I feel dirty now :lol

Too bad some company doesn't manufacture loose joints like this...I guess not enough demand, but it sure would make life easy for customizers.

I was posing him and twisting the knee joint to put his legs into a crouch position and I managed to snap off the left shin...****!! I've had it less than a week. I'm trying to glue it back but it'll be near impossible to do so while still maintaining articulation and movement in the joint. It's drying right now.

Treat this as a warning. Unfortunately there are no spare parts for aliens.

same exact thing happened to me, I had a brief period where I thought of ripping the figure apart and scattering the pieces around Wolf lol but now I think i'll just pose it near the back of my collection. The joint is very weak so I am using a blank display base to hold him up.

I had the same thing happen to mine and was not going to just let it go so I preformed arthroscopic surgery on the damn thing. What I did was drill with a very small hole right into the broken joint on both pieces. Like 1/4 of an inch deep and took a small nail and super glued it into both pieces creating a solid post. It made it super strong and still movable and poseable. You can't even see the repair on mine. I just took my time and was really careful and had great results. Just a thought. Good luck , Mike:D

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in the figure poseability on this. The feet kept popping off on mine due to being to loose to hold a positiion (no amount of superglue would help). I got so frustrated that I ended up breaking the ankle. What a waste..
