Problem solved: I just soaked the uniform in Stripeeze - a paint stripper- then rinsed in paint thinner. No harm to the fabric and it even gave it a bit of a weathered look in the end. Only loosened the glue on the chevrons, not a big deal. Thanks for the input, maybe you can use this...
I acquired a loose WWI stormtrooper (German) as part of a lot that someone had tried to "customize" by misting the dressed figure in baby- s*$# brown spraypaint. No kidding. I was hoping to salvage the blouse but I don't think I can strip the paint off of fabric by D&L handcleaner or lacquer...
My great-grandfather was German, actually Prussian then - they sailed to America from Hamburg - and they had some hard times in 1917 when the first war started so they pretended they were Polish. In between the wars you had to be a German to get work in the rail yards here because that's where...
Is the John Coleman uniform in fact of WWI vintage? It's an officer's uniform, isn't it? Any different than enlisted? I was thinking of getting that figure.
I'm tellin' ya boys, I remember vaguely a Maxim Gun with crew from the B & B series. I want to say it was a future release that never happened. I remember seeing this online when the series was still available and I thought "I'll never get in to buying these toys because I'll go broke trying...
Yea, unless you're an Ernest Hemingway fan!! Didn't he drive an ambulance for the Red Cross in Italy in WWI? Still it's a nice figure and I think I'll eventually get one, maybe customize it to something a little more common, like an infantryman or Alpine soldier. There were some pretty big...
OK, obviously that German taking the round is glued up! And what about making the fabric hang more naturally, does one accomplish this with starch or the like? I'm guessing they weather, shade and highlight the fabric with pastels, no?
Now these customs, are they glued up? I see alot of them have wrists that have been puttied over to hide the joints and such, but will the modeler totally glue up the whole figure to hold the pose? I am originally a figure painter (54mm and such) so I'm curious to see how similarly this medium...
OK, I got off my duff and googled JKSY and found a store in Niagara Falls, not too far. $148 will get me a 61cm x 35cm x 156cm case, whereas IKEA Detolfs are 43 x 37 x 163cm for 59.99. Not much difference in size, big difference in price. However I'd have to drive 2+ hours to Toronto to get...
They had a bunch of SSTs on clearance so I went nuts. I got 3 of the AEF Officers, 5 ACW soldiers and a Bela Lugosi Gypsy from the Wolfman movie!!! They were so cheap. Even if I use the bodies for customs - 15 bucks with all the uniform stuff to boot? I see nude bodies go at shows and on...
It really was a great line, too bad they discontinued. Wasn't there originally a plan for a Maxim gunner? I'd have liked to have seen a Turk and a Russian as well. Well I've got some loose ones to customize some day....
