Re: Qmx-Supernatural 1/6th Scale Collectible Figures

That would be a dream... That jacket... uh..

I know that jacket and that hair would make for a seriously cool figure
that literally is my dream, to have a season 1 Dean and a Dean from the final season side by side

Re: Qmx-Supernatural 1/6th Scale Collectible Figures

What does a Supernatural (and not a 1:6) collector think of Dean?

"It's like the most high quality Dean Winchester Barbie doll you could ever find"

pretty much sums it up right there. :lol

It is a nicer figure in hand. I don't know how much weight I would put on her evaluation, though. What is she comparing this figure to? I know it's nice to get a review from someone not necessarily into the hobby, but you then just get "awesome" this and "awesome" that. Just liking a property may give you the responses you want, but it may not be a critical enough eye as to what's possible in the hobby.

Agree on all counts. Specifically, this really is a much nicer figure in hand. Some figures just never come through very well in photographs, I think this is one. My opinion, of course.

I had this figure in hands 20 days ago.

The outfit is very nice and looks good.
I'm not a fan of "real" shoes this time tho, they look worse than something you'd be able to buy on ebay for $25.
The head is... it's an odd sculpt, looks too old and kinda like a dead doll. The paint is pretty simple and isn't great.
The hair/brows painted brown and yellowish brown, which looks very immaturish and stupid on something that supposed to be hi-end.
The accessories... Man, they're just horrible. It's a blast from the past, year 2002. Bag is the only decent thing it comes with.

Unfortunately, yes. :(

I wanted to buy this, my money was right there, on the hook, waiting to be spent, but honestly, I was holding off until Sam went up for order as well, as I didn't want to risk ending up with just one brother on the shelf, even if he turned out really well. If both had gone up at the same time, I would have pre-ordered, and that would have been that.

As has often been said, sometimes figures really are better in person that any photo can make them look, I own figures where I'd make that same argument, so I know the drill, while other times, to my eye at least, such claims feel more justification for money spent, or hope that it can be improved/fixed, rather than being the strictly unvarnished and straight out of the box truth of the matter. And it is often the figures that fail to clearly hit the highs, or lows, of what is possible and what is expected that tend to ride that split reaction line hardest of all. Mix that in with the simple fact that many of us are looking for, and at, different elements, and place more, or less, value on different aspects and criteria, and you end up with a situation where, at the end of the day you've just got to go with your own gut, your own tastes and measure by your own personal yardstick on these things, and determine whether you are happy with something or not, and be fine with that regardless of what anybody, or even everybody, else thinks. It is your own personal collection, so you have to own that. It's why I always try not to tell others they are wrong when they like something I don't, because they just happen to like something I don't, and there's nowt wrong with that. I'll voice my own opinion, sure, and will happily debate things back and forth, but that is as far as it goes.

Same thing here, some like it, and that's cool, but when I got a chance to see one in hand I was very disappointed in it, personally. I find the sculpt...questionable, one of those at-some-angles-it's-better-than-others type deals, but mainly it is the lifeless paint that I think really lets it down. The accessories are a bit cheap looking, and most seemed either under or over-sized to my eye. The outfit is really nicely done, though, so props where they're due. All in all it's not awful by any stretch, but for me it was a disappointment by QMX's own previous standards, and it's just not a figure that I felt was really worth my money, even as a Supernatural fan that has seen every episode and still loves the show. That said, I'd be real curious to see what a high quality repaint of that head could do, though...

It gets frustrating to have to hope that additional figures get made in a particular line (see QMx Firelfly). I also don't want only one brother to represent the show. If both were available now, I'd be all over that......

Hopefully Dean will be sold out when Sam goes up for sale - so I wouldn't wait too long...

I have my dean. We'll see if the sales are good enough to have them make Sam. If not, I'll only target one offs from them, like pennywise.
